Location of Windlass Selinoid on 2005 342

Does anyone know how to get to the Selinoid on the RInker 342?  I have the infamous clicking sound but no action from the motor.  I read other threads and 9 of 10 times its the solenoid but I can't seem to find a thread on how to locate/remove for repair.  Thanks a Ton!

I believe that it is behind the sub woofer at the helm. Sub is easy to remove. Others have commented here that it is back there somewhere.

Older 342s (like mine) had the Lewmar 600 windlass and no relay.  Instead of a relay they put a BIG toggle switch in the helm.  The wiring diagram for the 342 confirms that.

If you hit the windlass button up or down and hear some clicking in the dash on the right hand side, you've got a solenoid and it's located behind the subwoofer. I have a solenoid on my 2005

Thanks all I appreciate the advice. Sorry for the late response. Had my mechanic check it out and he got it working. Just gets jammed if I pull it up super tight. May not be the sellinoid at all.

I don't think my 270 has one? I have the toggle switch and the breaker switch mounted by the merc control on the right....

I don't have one.  Instead I have a HUGE toggle switch.  The 342 wiring diagram confirms that.  The Horizon 900 got a relay, the Horizon 600 did not.

I have acquired a relay and plan to switch over to it so I can have a remote for the windlass.

Can the existing wiring handle the load from the new 900??
  • StodgeStodge Member Posts: 2,738 ✭✭✭✭
@Handymans342 I would imagine, But I think it's the other way around.  The 342 that got the horizon 900 got a relay.  The 342 that got a horizon 600 did not.  And I have a horizon 600.

Me too but I want to Go to a 900 or a 1000 and both of those have higher amp rating than the 600

Well if you look at the diagram I posted they show 6 gauge wire going to the 900, but 4 gauge going to the 700(600).  If that's right then the wiring for the 700(600) is heavier than the 900.

What??  You question the documentation???  But the blueprints are ALWAYS right.  The diagram is gospel.  Right????    >:)

@DanD2 is the windlass switch in the dash large in comparison?  Like rated for 50 amps large and over 1 inch square?

@Stodge, I don't believe so, I really can't remember and the boat is under wraps right now
