Replace icemaker with cabinet - 330/340EC

YYZRCYYZRC Member Posts: 5,113 ✭✭✭✭✭
I removed the icemaker and I'd like to replace it with some sort of cabinet.  Any recommendations on where I could find something close to the same size as the opening?  SSI plastics has a few options but they look a bit cheap.

Thanks!

Perfect! They can custom make a door for me. Not cheap but will look great. Thank you for the recommendation.

Sorry but I’d highly recommend that you keep the ice maker. All of the comparable boats have them so when you go to sell you’ll be the boat without the ice maker. Also, we absolutely love our ice maker, couldn’t live without it, all future boats will require it now that we’ve had it.

Dont listen to Lib. No one wants nasty ice from a hose or storage tank water. Thats why they make Yetis

It’s not working and it’s 10 years old and disgusting. Also what Handy said :)

Careful listening to Handy, he is not a boater.

Yaa good stuff at Boat Outfitters. I’m going to take out our fridge & repurpose the cabinet. Rather have a cooler slide with fresh ice etc.....

They also make a nice marine starboard fire extinguisher bracket, pricey but correct. Better than the metal or plastic hangers.

I ordered a custom door and I'll spend the winter building a cabinet out of starboard.  I think it will be a perfect place to store bottled water and other drinks!

That's cool. You happy with Boat Outfitters? - looks like a quality product. It'll definitely look like a factory original.

They were great to work with.  They helped me make some tweaks after ordering and found a shipping method that didn't crush me with brokerage fees.

My only complaint is that I ordered the version with the seal, and it's clear that the seal won't actually work to seal the door because of the tolerances.  No big deal for my application but I wouldn't spend the $25 on the seal if I did it again.

I've been working away at the cabinet, it should work great but getting it installed will surely be painful.

Cabinet is done except for a shelf or two. Plan was to use 1/4 and 1/2 starboard but Noah’s only had 3/8. Not ideal.

I built it angled to try to capitalize on the space available but not sure I will be able to assemble it in the hole so it might take a couple tries!

@YYZRC , any chance your ice bin and front grill are in good shape? My bin is missing and grill is very yellow. Would you be willing to sell?

I think I have the bin on the boat and I will check the condition of the grill. You can have them, just pick up the tab for shipping. Need anything else?

Great! Thank you! How’s the frame and door? The pop rivets would need to be drilled off to remove the frame. Mine are ok, wouldn’t hurt to have a spare if they eventually get rusty.

Door is rusting along the bottom edge, I think the only useful part might be the seal.  The grill is ok, it's cracked around the screw and it looks as though it has been painted at some point.  The frame is pretty bent up from removal/transport (I wasn't treating it nicely).

Happy to send the grill to you along with the ice bin which I will collect next time I'm on the boat.  Let me know if you want the door seal or any other parts.

Don’t worry about the grill, I can paint mine. I’ll just take the bin and seal. Thank you!

Aero, they make new seals and sell them affordably, recommend just buying a new seal, brand new seal made a world of difference on our ice maker

@YYZRC , the owner of this 350 had the same idea as you with the cabinet in place of the ice maker.

Very strange - looks like they added an ice maker behind the doors!

It also appears to be made out of wood

Those portable ice makers are great!  I used to carry one around on my 310 and I'll still bring it along for events like Rinkervous.  They make up to 30lbs of ice in a day and you can just pour fresh water in them (they do only run on 120VAC).  I also use it sometimes at home for a party.  Only thing is it does not keep the ice frozen, meaning the ice will melt over time in the unit, but the water will just go back in to make ice.

I'm thinking of trying this too.  How did you connect your cabinet to the door?

The door frame had a lip around the perimeter that I screwed the cabinet to. I didn’t take any good pics, sorry.
