TonyG13 Dawn works. I personally use Simple Green. Self-explanatory, but ever use a combustible cleaner.
I never thought of cleaning my flame arrestor until this thread. Now I think I should and my first impulse would have been a solvent bath and air blow until I read this post. Duh! Yes, bad idea. So....just asking. What about something like brake cleaner or Quick Start that will evaporate?
@Willhound - While training to be a vessel examiner for the Coast Guard Auxiliary it was pounded into our head to always tell the boat owner to use a non-flammable solvent to clean the arrestor.
Granted there are lots of blogs out there that say you can use gasoline, turpentine, etc., to clean it, just make sure it's evaporated before reinstalling.
My position is why take the chance? If a non-flammable, and cheap product like Dawn or Simple Green can clean it just as well as a flammable cleaner - and much more safely - then why not?
Looking through my Mercruiser owner's manual and it gives directions (pg 88) about "Cleaning the IAC Muffler" - and says replace if necessary, but doesn't give a part number.
Anyone know the IAC Muffler part number for a 2014 350 MAG Seacore engine?
Yep. Off topic but it's also my go to bilge cleaner. A bucket of ice cubes and some Dawn and then go for a ride on a choppy day and take lots of turns. Ice scrubs and sloshed around and as it melts it gets pumped out.
Anyone have any experience with Buster's Marine in Broad Channel, NY?
I'm hoping this was an honest mistake. I ordered the IAC filters from Walmart - as noted earlier in this thread - of a "Pack of two" filters for $9.33 with free shipping. It seems the order was fulfilled by Buster's and it arrived today...
...exactly as pictured. All that was in the mailing envelope was the packing label, the top half of the Quicksilver bag, and ONE filter.
Lol @Cableguy Greg...it's pesky work, stuff around the house, working on cars, keeping up with kids, grandkids and great grandkids...I barely have time to sleep!
I'd agree the carb cleaner would be a good start up it's going to break loose a bunch of junk that might still be left behind...I'm just going to put mine in a bucket with some dawn so I can slosh it around real good and let it dry- not sure what the material but since it is not a maintenance replacement item it must not be a filter type material...I have my new 20 dollar filter...just need to get the home projects done and get the boat home. Might get out next weekend if I make good progress this weekend..but a lot to do. At least pushing snow around ain't one of them!
I went yesterday and took my flame arrestors off to bring it home and clean. And i dont even have filters just a hole it was really nasty on that plate. Either engine had a filter but they should right.
From what I read when I changed mine, it’s ok if they are not there as they are a muffler and not a filter, so without them your hearing a high pitch Noise from the iAc. Someone else here may know better but I think you’ll see a sound improvement by adding them

The Walmart site, clearly says "Pack of Two" (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Quicksilver-35-8M2001030-35-8M2001030-Filter-Iac-2-Replaces-Mercury-Mercruiser-Pack-Of-2/33276175) so I emailed Buster's and awaiting a response - which I hope will be that they are sending the second one.
Go Steelers!!!
