Ras......when there is a lot of wide open water and no one around my friend with the same model and I open them up and goof around a bit. We have had them at 70 mph on gps and that was waaaay too fast for me. Fall at that speed and poof you're mist on the water. ha ha
How about sailors who love to go out when the wind is up, but refuse to get a motor big enough to safely dock the boat. On a windy day, they just bumble around the fairway, randomly crashing into other boats until eventually they get into their slip (or give up and go to the fuel dock). We've had a few of those boaters here.
Love on busy holidays like 4th or July or the air and water show when everyone and their brother is out on a boat. Everyone races back to the harbor when the show is over and a organized line forms in the harbor right? Not always. You always get the douches who feel they don't have to wait in a line and attempt to pass people...yes in the harbor where there is basically a 2 line highway of boats leaving and entering.
I boat n a 5,000 acre lake that has two bridges which conveniently divide it into 3 separate bodies of water. There’s plenty of room for the sailboaters, the watersports, the cigarette style boats and the fishermen, and for the most part, we all give each other space to do our thing. But somehow, PWC operators didn’t get the memo.
We call them barnacles, because they are the crap that hangs off a bigger boat. Had one cut right behind a water skier in tow one time. A flinch and that would have been manslaughter.
I'm still shocked that there are so many sailboater haters on here....they cause little to no wake and 6-8 knotts is about as fast as many can go!
I find i don't like to borrow my parents jet ski because of the stigma associated with them. I was given a nice 1996 seado gtxi i think...700 cc i believe. It needs a new motor which would cost me about 1200 and i have pulled them before and i could have a decent little toy...again i have not touched it because of the stigma
I don't have anything against sail boats thus far. There are very few of them where I usually boat. I just don't understand the allure of it. Seems like a lot of work to keep them moving. I am too lazy to be a sail boater.
Sailboaters are like trawler owners, its about the journey not the destination. How many 20 to 25 foot power boats would you take from cali to Hawaii? There have been hundreds id not thousands of trailerable saiboats to do it. Its all down wind so many didnt attempt to come back!
They are work. Lazy jacks, roller furling, inboard motor all make life easier on a sailboat. An entire summer with hundreds of miles of water travel on 2 or 3 tanks of fuel is also nice. 12 gallons used to last me all season from April to October
I think I could do it if I'm retired and have a pretty good size one- just don't have the experience to take off across the ocean. There are some great you tubes of doing just that that I am totally envious of.
That is so true Rick..it's just finding the time...and when I have the time I'll be to old and to poor...should have studied a little harder or something!
