Well i just got a quote to ship the boat for $3500 with me having it ready for ship. Based on all of your expert knowledge it sounds like the top would need to come off and possibly the props i guess?
Looking for a marina down there that could have it ready for shipping pick up so i can get a quote. Anyone know any or better yet have an idea for what it would cost to have that kind of thing done?
Also wanted to say thanks to everyone for being awesome on this forum! You all rock!! This is a huge reason im looking to buy my 3rd rinker and not go to another brand.
$3500 is a good price! As far as hard top removal, you're talking several hours and then use of a gantry. I think I ended up paying around $1k for installation of mine (that included caulking time and removal/reinstall of fridge and other panels to get to the mounting areas. You'll also have to pay for use of gantry for putting boat onto trailer.
I'll say mine had soot and bug splatter on the stern after the haul from OH to MD. No big deal, I had a lot of cleaning anyhow, it just added a bit more.
FYI, my hardtop was able to sit on the aft part of the boat during travel. I have some pics I can post if I remember to dig them up.
$3500 is incredible. Agree with Al that you may want to ensure they have the entire picture.
Agree with Handy on covering your bases. For my current purchase of a 39 with Volvo diesels I did a survey and I had a Volvo certified tech go over the engines on the hard and plug in to them with Volvo software and he did oil analysis on the mains and genny. All good. Then we will do sea trial in a few weeks with the Volvo tech on board and plugged in and we will do oil analysis again on mains and genny and transmissions with the oil mixed and warm. You are lucky as you can do most of that all at once in Florida.
@brandonmayberry , does that hauler have a website with pics of boats/yachts he has transported? Maybe he can send you some pictures, can give you an idea of the type of work/quality he gives. You can see his equipment also. Would be a great deal for $3,500!
Yes, when my 400 was hauled, it was one of those low boy semi trailers. I also had an escort in the front and the back. He had over 40 detours he had to take between Ohio and MD. The guy I used was fantastic!!!! He has hauled everything and anything. He is out of NC. His business is called "Coast to Coast". Name is Ken White, phone is 704-488-1595. Coasttocoasttransport.com
I'd be curious what he quotes.
Oh, one last thing. My situation was urgent to get the boat surveyed and out of the lot in a matter of days for them to accept my offer. This hauler drove all day to beat dusk before Memorial day weekend on Thursday because he was not allowed on the road at night or on Fri before the holiday weekend. Nothing better than a phone call from the guy on his way saying "don't worry about a thing sir, I have your toy and she is well taken care of and I'll be there tonight".
I met him that night and offered to pay for a hotel room since marina wouldn't unload till morning. He slept on his truck and said I'm not done until she is safely off.
Oh, I see the price on my invoice, $3k. This was back 2012.

3500 seems very wrong. I have another guy who’s quote 4800 that seems to know more but thinks the top doesn’t need to come off. I have a very reputable guy who has quoted 10800 and knows the entire process of removing the top and shipping it and indicated he would monitor the whole process and not leave The boat or his truck for a moment until safe delivery. I’m curious what delivery by water would run but not had any contacts that have offered yet. That seems to be a more financially smart route but has many more variables with regard to possibility for damage on route.

He has good uship reviews but all boats are less that 32ft
Remember this is 14’ wide. Must use an escort plus a over size permit. If the trailer is not long enough for hard top to set, it must also be shipped on a 2nd trailer plus an over size permit for that as well. The top must be on a very large cradle/ stand. 3,500 is way to cheap. Don’t loose your investment over a cheap shipper
I agree whole heartedly. Thanks for all your help Al. You’re a wealth of information.
I had to laugh when the guy said. “ I don’t think the top has to come off”. This driver has no idea of what type of load he is quoting. Probably had a one ton dually too. Anyway this is a much larger boat than many think. I mean much larger. The top must be removed it sets over 15’ high on the lowest lowest trailers. Note, I always preferred to use a travel lift when removing or installing the hard top. Like I said, the center point location is the pick point
That helps me pick who I will trust with the transport immensely. As with anything, you get what you pay for.
My $3k was just for movement of the boat from OH to MD. I had to pay my marina separately to remove boat off of trailer, block, & install the hardtop. They knew what they were doing as they were one of the largest Rinker dealers at the time & have the proper travel lift and equipment.
You are definitely getting good advice here and it sounds like you will make a good choice.
Im sure everyone already knows this, but @Handymans342 is probably the coolest guy in the world! Ive never gotten so much help from someone ive never met in person before. Everyone here is awesome but he has gone above and beyond more than i could ever imagine! Im sure he doesnt do it for the recognition but he sure as heII deserves some.
One of the things I love about this forum is that we all certainly have our own distinct "personalities" but at the heart of it is our love of boating and Rinker's in particular. It makes for a generally open and helpful atmosphere, not like some on-line forum's oout there.
Nobody fights with Handy more than me. Once you learn his personality...lol he really is a great guy. *Please note, this will be the last time I say something nice about him....lol

Ive been told Delray Beach but let me check with broker.
He had previoulsy referred Palm Beach Yacht Center to lift it so i would say close to there. I dont know the area.

@Alswag do you have any transport Capitans you can recommend?
If i was retired an had a license those would be about the only jobs id enjoy. It's about that time for the snow birds to head back north.
