When it rains it pours PART TWO!

Okay, taking some deep breaths over here... you may want to sit down - I had to.
Brought the boat to the mechanic for what I thought was a gimbal bearing problem. He calls up today and says "Metal in the drive oil" ............. *(#@!!!
If you've been following this boat, at some point I seemed to have run over some indestructible fishing line, which then somehow screwed up the prop shaft seal and let water into the drive... not sure how, but it is what it is. So I brought it to someone in FL first thing... they decided to REPAIR the drive... even though insurance was on board for fixing it, INSTEAD of replacing, even though I asked the mechanic to make a replacement claim instead of repair. Well......after REPAIRING the drive and the gimbal bearing, if you recall I had it in the water for a total of ONE WEEK and realized I had a leak... a bad one, that required the motor to come out, sanding down the transom, re-sealing it, etc etc... so it was out of the water for SIX months. One week after putting it back in the water I hear a noise... everyone says gimbal bearing... until today when the mechanic replaced the gimbal bearing and the noise was still there!!!
They took the drive apart and he simply says "Water damage in upper and lower, needs to be replaced"...
Sigh. My bayliner NEVER gave me problems like this. Good old 130 hp motor with an Alpha 1 !!
At this point, it's obviously got to be replaced... to be continued.

To be clear, I have photos of oil leaking out of the prop shaft seal sent to me by another mechanic up North....and then I also have multiple pictures of water in the drive oil reservoir... I presented these to mechanic #1 and he said "I don't see water in the drive" - I then said "that's because I just refilled it since it all leaked out on the way down here" and he for some reason didn't want to listen. Well here we are... 9 or 10 months later and my initial gut feeling was correct. Just hoping insurance will see that this event is tied to the original event and help out.
to the local marina service company to help diagnose a bad gimbal bearing. I'm sorry for your problems but hope it doesn't happen to me.

I have no bravo experience. All the research ive found on the boat i plan on moving up to says i want a 7.4 and bravo 2. The boat i want is about 10k loaded, 28 ft and pushes the limits for both a 5.7 and bravo 3. Your 270 isnt far behind in weight, isn't around 7000 lbs dry?

I can't see spending 9 -11k on a NEW Bravo 3 if the rebuilt one comes with a better warranty for half the cost. Then throw in that the seacore is 7700 and it's completely out the window.
I guess the question is...is the seacore, being NEW and including 50 booty bucks worth the $3404 price difference?
