Yeah, looks like a bad situation.  The reporting I read said the fire is safely above the one million gallons of fuel that the boat carries.

@andyd the Navy is scrapping the Bonhomme Richard.  Too expensive to repair her ($3.2B, or $1B to convert her to a hospital ship).  Unbelievable.

The crew for sure, but five admirals will be disciplined, including a 3-star.  

They made every mistake in the book, and invented some new mistakes.  No fire inspections, and leadership didn't check whether inspections were done.  No training, and leadership didn't check whether training was done.  Firefighting entry routes were blocked with equipment ... it goes on and on.  

In retrospect, a fire inspector walking through that ship would have gone crazy.

I have worked for a couple very poor flight departments and not even they made mistakes and oversights on this level.
