Sealed lead acid batteries are acceptable for my set up. Vetus says that if the battery is going to be positioned with the thruster, a sealed lead acid (they call it their smf) or a sealed agm should be used.

I can’t imagine vetus would recommend anything against abyc, Grahamu could you post the details? I’m up for a new battery and would like to see the reg before I splurge on an agm. Lead acid works just lovely. Thanks

@LaRea I'm sure it's AGM. Mine is.  I had to replace it a few years ago. Hard to believe, but it was original.

@Liberty44140 I will try and find the regs tomorrow at the shop and also check with the electrician who is ABYC certified.

It appears I am wrong I just checked and the electrician says ABYC does not object to "sealed" lead acid batteries, sorry about the misinformation.

I went with an Optima Yellow top just to be safe.

Fist day back on the boat yesterday, was glorious. 41 degrees cold inside storage and 9 degrees outside.
I took a look at my thruster battery box as I was curious about venting. I have to give cruisers yachts credit. There is a thru hull coming in to the box and a hose connected venting the box outside. I was wrong, there are no vents in the box, but it’s vented to a grill on the hull of the boat. You can just barely see it in the pic I posted. Lower left corner of the box.

Cruisers makes a really good quality boat. I’m not surprised it’s done right.
