Broken walk through latch

goalie59goalie59 Member Posts: 326 ✭✭✭
One of my plastic walk through latches has broken. I was wondering if I should try to drill out the rivet and just put a self taping mounting screw . Kind of worried about breaking glass. Has anyone else done this. Thanks.

There is not enough metal to use a self tapping screw. Plus never stay with the rotating part moving.  You can buy replacement latches then just rerivet.

It is very easy to disassemble the walk thru. Four Phillips screws. I would not risk drilling with the glass still in place. Agreed with above comments on riveting again.

I have ordered Taylor windshield parts from Cecil Marine in the past.

If you take it apart be very careful with the edges of the glass. Tempered glass is extremely strong however the edges are weak and will shatter the whole thing.

Great . Thanks for all the input. I am going to take a closer look at it this weekend.
