Showed the Admiral pictures and prices of 342s.  She in...lol

Now to find one that is local and not outrageously priced.

Oh yeah I'd have to sell my 270 first.

    Luckily it's a sellers market for your 270 but it's also a seller's market for the 342 🤔.

I went from the 270 to a 342 5 years ago changed the boating experience all together. Agree sell the 270 now hold on to spring for a 342. Sold mine last year for 55g hope that is a good price point for you.

@reneechris14 - That price point would be nice.  Everything I'm seeing now are low 70's.  Nothing local.

50s will be saltwater or pretty beat. I’m Chicago you want to buy a freshwater boat so yea you’ll be at least in the 60s for an 04 and 70s by 06.

My 2003 342 w/dinghy went for ~70k in May. Just a point in space.  Fresh water, loads of upgrades and 500hrs.

Just to give you an idea of what they are selling for right now....I sold my freshwater 2005 342 with 800ish hrs last month for 80K. Last year, this thing would have sold for $65 max.

There's an '03 for sale here at $73k.  I've seen better, but I've seen worse.  I don't see any obvious evidence of water leaks in the cabin, but that could just be careful photography.

The engine room needs a good cleaning.  You guys know how I feel about the correlation between boat condition and grime in the engine room.

I thought Larea was just being picky but that engine room looks like a dust/oil bomb went off. You would have to work real hard at making it that dirty.

@skennelly Scratch your back end and forget about another boat. Buy Gold

That engine room makes me want to crank up a pressure washer.

Aside from that, the ad brings back fond memories of my '03.  The 342 is a great boat.  @skennelly if you can find one worth buying, you won't regret it.  Wait for the right one.

@LaRea - Yep.  No hurry...I just know we need to upgrade.  I'm also not 100% sold on stern drives, but the price point and size of 342 is so appealing.

Wow, I'd be too ashamed to post pictures of that engine room.  Makes me feel better about the belt dust in mine after a 10 day trip.  :)

Yea what amazes me is for how disgusting the engine room is there is very little sign of salt. She must be far up a river or canal or something.

It's right around the corner from me.  The water is brackish here at most. So, not really a salty environment.  Drive the boat 40 miles north and you are in completely fresh water.

Would make a nice winter project to get everything cleaned up and ready for next season. You can use the filth in your favor to make an offer.

You will pay the difference in fuel cost. My 03 Doral 330sev is getting .75 to the gal and my 05 342 was around 1.1 or 1.0. 120 miles last week 170 gallons of fuel + -. Personally I  think when you trim up it is a better ride. Ps I do need to reprop.

If you can afford a 70k boat i don't wanna hear any BS about fuel costs 😜😜😜😜

  • skennellyskennelly Member Posts: 2,196 ✭✭✭✭
@reneechris14 - it's not so much the money... just the hassle of stern drive maintenance.  I would accept the fuel mileage if maintenance was easier.

Yes I agree most of the maintenance I did on my 342 was drive related. V drives do handle better around the dock. No winterizing or gear lube. When I reprop I hope to get a mile to a gallon. I'm running big blocks(8.1) at 3900rpm to get to 26mph. So maybe I'm not a good example 😕.  But she gets there in 4 seconds flat.

    @reneechris14 you are only getting 26 at 3900??? I get almost 30 at 3400 with a single 8.1 on my 280.

Ok ok Steve can pee the farthest. I know I need to reprop, but after 3100 for each motor 3000 for risers and manifolds and 3000 in other crap then another 3000 for props Whoo. They can recondition mine to 21pitch in stead of 18 for 900 but want them for 2 weeks, they will wait till winter. This is a tread about the itch @skennelly has to own an amazing 342. Good thing he well know exactly how many gallons he will use.
