Had my boat on Craigslist for the last month. Not being bottom painted I rarely used it due to putting it in and taking it out every time. Only thing is, if that sells I still have 11 other boats (36’ Pacemaker, 20’ Grady, 2 15’ Whalers, 2 Waverunners, 2 Sunfish sailboats and the 3 kid’s Opti sailboats)
Rinker sold but still have other boats Eastern LI, NY
Last year we didn't get ours in until mid June cause it was getting a new cone clutch installed. My step-father passed away in August last year so our season was basically done then. They had a boat too and we would raft up occasionally. We lost our climate controlled storage. We bought a Mustang convertible and have been cruising around in it all summer so just haven't used it much.
Free one currently in Waccamaw, SC. Runs good but has termite infestation.
Never thought about termites on a boat. Interesting.
Certain times of year they take flight down here. Not sure if that's the case up north. But, if they find wood wherever they land then they go to town. So any nearby infested home, dock, building or fallen log that is upwind from your boat can lead to an issue.
I went up and got the boat two weeks ago. Drove up on Thurs (12 hrs). Met the agent in Orillia in the AM. Took her out for a spin and went through everything. I have to give the mechanic they used a C-. However, his inabilities gave me the ability to negotiate the price down another $2k. Radio, Fridge and Corsa Captains choice exhaust were not working. So, I just went off the assumption they had to be replaced.
Getting through customs went something like this " Where are you going? Annapolis, MD. How long were you here? 1 day. Do you have anything to declare? (Me staring at the boat behind me) nope. OK have a nice day" As i was driving through up state NY the hills took their toll on my truck. One long uphill pull all of a sudden it sent out a puff of white smoke and the check engine light came on. I knew i had a small oil leak. Now i also have an issue with burning oil. So, i have to find a Ford Mechanic to look into it. I just replaced upper control arms on it this weekend to get it to pass MD inspection. But digging into the engine to find out why it is burning oil. That is where i tap out.
Here is the good part. Radio works. Just have to hold the power button. Fridge works. Circuit breaker was tripped and trips easily. It is one of the push button types. So that is likely a little worn out. Corsa exhaust works. The circuit breaker for it was bad. I am fortunate to have the wiring diagrams so that made troubleshooting it so much easier. All three repairs cost me about $8 and 6 hrs of my time. One thing the mechanic did was put in a new battery charger. I had to get a new one immediately. He literally cut the wires on the old one. Zip tied in a new tiny one designed as just a single battery trickle charger. It was way up out of the way so i couldn't see it till i contorted in the bilge. This trickle charger puts out 2 amps. Fridge alone uses 4 amps. I am trying the NOCO Genious GenPro10. NOCO - 2-Bank 20A On-Board Battery Charger - GENPRO10X2. This should give me 10amps per battery. It is a sealed unit so better protection against water and can handle various battery types.
After spending several days peeking into everything I have to say that I am very impressed with this boat. The quality and workmanship is all that i was hoping for. It is often the little things. The chrome on this boat is beefy. I have never seen chrome like that before. It is solid. No creaks or rattles. We took it out this last Saturday and it was pretty choppy out. Windy and a ton of boats. Handled like a champ. Jumps up on plane and will hit 46 MPH with two people and 3/4 tank of gas. The engine just sounds rock solid. My current priority is only to get a mooring cover made. Which sounds easy and would be if folks would just return my calls. Sigh.
I have a few ideas of upgrades i want to do in the future. Things like a new radio and upgraded dash. Incorporate a MFD vs the gauges. Sand down the teak. He varnished it...and when wet it is slippery. For right now though. I need to get my truck fixed.
I may have to declare the boat as abandoned in order to register it. This is so frustrating. MD is a state that titles and registers boats. Not all states do this. In Canada i have discovered they don't title. They require....(politely ask) boat owners to register the boat and take a user licensing course. So in CA all i am required to get is a bill of sale. Which i did.
Now come down to MD. The DNR used to be helpful. Then they collocated them with the DMV staff and the attitude went downhill. The website Boat Registration (maryland.gov) states that i need:
Copy of out-of-state registration card or a true test copy of that state’s official vessel record
Original Certified / Notarized Bill of Sale
A bill of sale must include the names of the buyer and the seller, date of sale, seller’s signature, amount of sale and vessel description (year, manufacturer, hull identification number and/or current registration number).
Original lien release if card or record shows a recorded lien."
The issue is that the owner cancelled his boat registration and tossed his copy of the paperwork. When you call the registration agency they cite privacy laws and tell me they can't help me. MD DNR also changed the requirement when you go in person to require original or wet signatures. No copies. Which isn't what is posted above. Grrrrr.
So, I am stuck. Unless the owner can find an old copy of the registration, he can't even get a copy himself. The only thing the registration agency can give him is a copy of the cancellation. My only other option it looks like is to follow the process of registering an abandoned boat. Send the previous owner a registered letter and put an ad in a local paper.
I bought a 14 foot rowboat with a 25 hp motor with no title we found a company in Vermont that set us up with a title he posts a ad on craigslist NJ Ill see isf i can find the link
All the broker/seller needs to have is the seller's info (photo of driver's license) and the boat registration number and they can get you a copy of the pleasure craft license which should match your bill of sale and satisfy MD DNR.
The broker/seller should cancel the Ontario registration for you since the boat will be re-registered outside of Ontario.
If you used a broker, it's pretty disappointing that they didn't do all of this for you.
@YYZRC Thank you. I will send it over and see if they can do this. I spoke with the transport department this morning and they told me that becuase the registration was cancelled this will likely not work. They told me that the only thing they could send out was a copy of the cancellation. No harm in trying though.
Our 2006 Crownline is up for sale. It's a 250CR with AC, windlass, 2016 trailer, the works (no gennie). Just picked it up from the shop last night. Had a very small yolk seal leak that was dripping into the bilge and my mercathode was broken somewhere so they fixed that. Everything on the boat works now except a turn signal on the trailer and that will be fixed before it goes. $37,000. Western PA

Dream 'Inn III -- 2008 400 Express
definitely catches your eye. The varnished wood is a head scratcher tho.
Edit: windshield is supercool.
