I considered buying the legs a pair of flippers and calling it a day. Unfortunately, those legs are attached to a 14 year old that would complain far too much. Ha ha.
So, making the cutout. You drill a pilot hole, insert a pipe, clamp a router to the pipe, and the router cuts the opening?
Yes. The rod passes through both holes to maintain its centre position as you work the tool in and out to follow the contour of the hull. Some people use the rod and a pencil to trace the hole then cut the hole with a jig saw or other. I went with a 1/2” rod and mounted a die grinder with a 1/4” down cut router bit. The final shape of the hole is very distorted because of the shape of the hull. This is a pic of my cutouts the hole is a 4” diameter.
