Nice work. This definitely falls into the peace of mind type work. I would of been nervous anytime someone over the age of 9 walked on a soft bow. I have a deck on the back of my house that i need to replace. I get nervous anytime someone is leaning against the railing.
That is crazy good work there. First, as a novice, I never understood the bow would be balsa- I would have thought it would be marine grade plywood throughout. Sounds like any collisions our boats will desenagrate! Really nice job I hope I never have to refer back to this post!
@rasbury I had no idea how it worked either. I was totally a novice at this. As it came together it made sense. It's all in the layers and the epoxy sticking everything together that build the solid structure. The balsa is a very light, plywood would have been a nightmare to epoxy in place overhead. You could actually cut the balsa wood with a razor knife. It also was scored in small blocks with a mesh backing so it would contour to the curves of the boat.

So true, it was driving me nuts. So glad it’s complete.

It was a learning experience for sure.
