I agree with having the hose to the bottom of the pan. Just not sure of the reason to install the pump permanently in the engine room. I have a portable electric pump that clips on the battery and connects right to the hoses from the bottom of the pan. Me & a couple buddies use the same pump (I've had the pump now for 12 years). For a once a year job, only takes minutes. Then fill back with oil, & pump old oil into containers.
Don't forget to open fill tube when sucking out from crankcase through drain plug.. pulling against vacuum is the enemy of diaphragm pumps, and will kill them quickly.
