My experience with Randy Rinker was anything but positive when I contacted customer service last fall about a bimini frame issue. I have a 00' 272 Captiva Millennium edition and when I went to replace all the enclosures and bimini last fall with factory canvas I found that in model year 2000 Rinker used 2 different bimini frames, one from Taylor and one from Ameritex which was a company that transitioned from Taylor Made. Canvas for the Taylor frame would have to be custom made as it's no longer available and all factory canvas is Ameritex, so the only option within reasonable expense was to buy a new frame from the factory and the canvas. Why would a manufacturer use two different frames just for one year and not use the better 4 bow frame from Ameritex for the "Millennium" package as it's the top model of that boat! All I was looking for was an answer as to why they would do that as it screwed the owner with Taylor canvas and also maybe some help with the purchase of the new frame. Randy could have cared less that they used two different frames or the problems it left an owner with. When asked why they would do that the answer given was "that's just the way it happened". The greatest resource of help came from Arnold's boats and TJ who went above and beyond, all new canvas and frame!!! I love my Rinker, I have no use for Randy Rinker!

Not to sound like a jerk, but a little education on line manufacturing would go a long way, here...

A model year is just that.. if an issue is discovered that can be remedied by altering products, and it is significant enough, it will rate another series.. a series is called a 'job'.. you will sometimes see as many as four jobs on a single model year.. 2005 job3 would be a third series, as an example..

Suppliers to makers most often come through... But sometimes they don't. That would cause the makers to change products, no? It's unfortunate, but it is the way it is... A maker making a change mid stride has a reason, but a professional outfit doesn't need to televise to the world those reasons, or else they will sever their relationship with the supplier..... That would shortly limit options, and sole suppliers set their own pricing schedules.. if you want a competitive and quality products, you've gotta expect these things to happen from time to time..

I'm sorry you got mixed in and burned by a product supplier for your job boat, but I commend rinker for not hanging out the suppliers.. it speaks of integrity, to me... If they were to update your bimini, they would be bound by integrity to update others, as well... Yeah, that sucks, but them handling it the way they did keeps prices lower for the next buyer, and relationships between them and suppliers open- which also benefit the end buyer.. it also speaks well of rinker that they recognize a problem and address it, regardless of having to acknowledge launching a new series..
