knocking and clanking sound

I have a 2001 captiva 232 with the 5.7 mercruiser efi...when I went out today it started fine and idled through the no wake and when I went to take off when it got to about 2k rpm it started knocking/rattling sound in the motor and the more rpm the more it did it..i stopped and took off and it kept getting more loud.  I heard this same noise about a month ago while I was cruising but it stopped almost right away but this time it kept getting more loud. It only does this sound when its under load also any help would be helpfull

I had an issue last season where I would get lifter noise when the oil warmed up while cruising. Turns out my oil level was too high, corrected the oil level and the issue went away.

im thinking it is gimbal bearing or u joint.. oil is all fine

i was wrong cylinder head needs to be done...2 cylinders down on compression

Ouch. Almost sounds like a rod knock or piston slap.

Red wing about 45 min south of the cities..ok thanks for the information i will check wot when fixed.  It currently has a 17p 4 blade ss prop
