OK, a little off topic here, but Ras brought up the subject and randy56 took it a little further...I'm a member of the Bardstown Whiskey Society, home of Heaven Hill Distilleries and the Evan Williams & Elijah Craig brands, amongst others. The Elijah Craig Single Barrel 18 yr old is awesome if you can find it. The 12 yr old is more available and very good. The Evan Williams Single Barrel Small Batch 10 yr old is likewise very good. My brother lives in Bardstown, so I visit when I can, but I can enjoy the fine whiskeys of Kentucky any time (and do too)!
diggin, thanks sounds perty fanicy to me, I'll check it out, where I boat no need for garmin, gps, not tech savvy, just want some tunes and to be able to control it with out having to go to the cabin, kinda hard to run down there quickly while under way. never been on a forum before this week, does this thread keep on going? Lot of good info on here! March 20 first day of spring
@randy56 I did not replace the remotes, that's what the kids are for: turn it up, turn it down, not like I have a 50' boat that I have to walk far to change the volume! Just not that big a deal to me....
rasbury, thanks my kids are having kids so I'm going to fix it, doing some serching on here I found, recomdations, Kenwood, Alpine, Sony, and Fusion I'll do a little more research an get one.
I find we really don't listen to the radio very much...but we don't have any real "raft up" areas here locally so it is priorities. I had to get a new VHF radio, working on finishing my enclosure, need to do some work on the trailer...etc....priorities!
@Michael T once you are on plane, you bring the trim tabs completely back resting state(not sure the correct term)? Unless you are balancing the boat to counteract weight, correct?
@diggin2day1 I am very close to your desired cruising speed, 25mph is perfect for me. My lady does not enjoy the speed as much as she does the cruise, so its perfect for us...and the dog. I agree, the extra 5mph is not worth the fuel.
rasbury, my hat is off to you and your spouse, thats a job nobody wants, but I'm sure you love those little mouth breathers. boating on the Ohio river and Barkley - Kentucky lake, we have sandy islands, and large coves for rafting up, sometimes we go up river 10 miles and float back. offical start of boating season is Memorial day week end, I start a month earlier. sounds like you are allready getting started on spring maintance, as all of us have it.
Same here with my 276. It seems to like 1-2 "dots" of trim tabs even in dead calm water, and usually a touch more on one side depending on water load / people placement. It rides much better too with more trim tabs due to plowing through the chop versus banging up & down on it.
@06Rinker270, sorry for the delayed response - I'm in the Turks & Caicos Islands for three weeks and the WiFi can be a bit slow..... such a hardship LOL Yes, I completely retract my tabs unless I MUST use them for balancing the boat - which is not often - thankfully - because Any use of trim tabs or improper drive trim Really eats up gas mileage. Had a respectful disagreement with a friend on this issue last summer. I took him out in the boat and did two things: trimmed the drives in too far (negative trim) and put the tabs down different amounts. I showed him the RPM, MPH and GPH changes on the Vessel View 7 and he was speechless...... and poorer too - LOL - as he had to buy a round of beers. You can't argue with the V V 7 data. Improper trim and misuse of trim tabs cost boat owners a lot of RPMs, GPHs and MPGs = $$$$$$$
Do my best Steve, hopefully the Admiral knows how to operate my new phone. We're on Grace Bay Beach (google it)..... it's 7miles long, about 200 yards wide and pure white sand. No clouds and 85 degrees. Three weeks of this and I'll be ready for the boating season!
MT it all depends on how much you can pull that trim back before you get porpoising and how much waves are hammering your bown. On my boat even in flat water I need some tab down to prevent porpoising but not much. That allows me to lift the drive a bit and zero in on my best fuel milage which is around 2 MPG.
Mark, I've been lucky with the 310 and 360. They never needed trim tabs except for the most unusual circumstances. In fact neither of them needed negative drive trim while underway. I think the length of the boat's and the width of their hulls made them very well balanced and stable. With these two boats I always have only used the trim tabs for hole shot when getting onto plane.
Hey Steve, as a matter of fact the Admiral looked pretty much like that a few years back...... and I've changed a bit over the years too LOL....... but the beach still looks the same...... what's with that?
