It's going to miss us completely in NS for a change. Usually these storms track straight up but this time its moving east. We can use the break after last year. Be safe to those affected.

I fired up my genny yesterday!  Good thing I did ... I ended up having to rebuild the carburetor.  

The boat is on jackstands at Fort Belvoir.  It's only a mile away as the crow flies, but it seems unlikely I'll be able to get there to check on it.  They are now calling for 24-30 inches, with 40 mph winds.  The entire city is shutting down until at least Sunday.  

I'm betting schools won't reopen until Thursday (and they were closed yesterday and today).

My kids live in Annapolis and my daughter is an ER nurse who HAS to go to work.

Yep, they are calling for 18-24" in Annapolis (where I'm at anyhow).  Made sure my genny runs, got 20+ gallons of gas and the wife just bought me a snow blower just this morning!  LOL!!  We've been living where we are for almost 20 years....getting too old to not have the snow blower I guess.  My work and the wife's never closes.  My son moved a cord of wood under our patio earlier this week...so we'll stay toasty!

I've already worked through the first three stages of a Virginia blizzard.  1) Preliminary shoveling to loosen up muscles and make room for more snow. 2) Dinner and wine with friends, leading to a scotch and cigars party in the garage.  3) Vigorous discussion, caused by (2), about how much more snow will come.  (4) Vigorous shoveling to work off excess energy caused by (2) and (3), and to make room for more snow.  

The snow-o-meter says ten inches, which "feels like" 20 inches according to my lower back.

Planned a snowmobile trip to Vermont this week, but not much snow, and their not getting any from this storm. Don't suppose there are any snowmobile trails on Long Island, NY, are there aero 3113? Maybe I should hook up the trailer and head south!

You can find a lot of trails in the mountains of Virginia, West Virginia and PA. Seven Springs in PA is reporting getting 23" of snow and it is still coming down. There are a lot of trails around there.

I don't know of any off hand, but I'm sure you can come down and make your own! There is a trail behind my house that a lot of people cross country ski on. I feel bad, I left my wife home alone while I'm at training in Savannah. No snow here but I'm surprised at how cold it is!

This morning's shoveling was limited to mission-essential stuff:  hot tub, heat pump, trash cans, and a walkway to the street.  

So much for staying ahead of it!  The entire 140-foot driveway was clear at midnight last night.  Now it's so deep you can barely tell we shoveled!

To all you Easterners, I feel really bad for you. This is what we routinely deal with in the Mid West, in addition to weeks of sub-zero temps and merciless wind. Since it is so common, we are equipped to deal with it pretty effectively, but not the case for a lot of you folks out east, especially some of the more southerly of Y'all that have one snow plow for the entire county! We got lucky with El Nino this year as it has been un-commonly mild. Hurray!
