Your Boat's Upholstery

Michael TMichael T Member Posts: 7,227 ✭✭✭✭✭

When I purchased my last four Rinkers I had the factory ship two yards of the "vinyl", I think it's called Nautex, with the boats.

I have had small holes in boat and car seats repaired before by specialists and could not find the repair area easily. But, a big tear would be another matter.

Rinker did not charge me a lot for the material - certainly below retail cost. I think they did it as a courtesy for a Rinker owner.

I am saying this because if any of you are placing an order with Rinker or if your Rinker dealer is placing an order it might be a good idea to have a yard or two sent....just a thought......maybe too much time on my hands?

That's a good idea MT.  I will add, I have had a couple seats repaired or partial replacement of canvas and you wouldn't know which canvas came with the boat and which is new.  So, when the boat starts to get as old as mine and you start having thread pulling out, no fear, they can match it very well.

Now that's cheap. We pay $2600 for a 30ft slip, 6 months.  So your winterization is expensive, but your slip is inexpensive. I guess it all balances out in the end.

$4,000 for a full year for a 40 X 15. That's with the 7% discount if you pay by Dec 15th. I already paid but we have no dock now. Guys boat next to mine....Windshield smashed down, radar arch snapped off.....$18 to 20k estimate to fix. Ouch.

MarkB that is only the dockage I also pay $600 for dues and then they have what they call mandatory functions. I have to pay weather or not I go or dont. That comes out to be about another $450. And do 35 work hours a year. IMO very pricey for a Yacht Club. But I totally love it....lol

For comparison I pay $5.5K +/_ per year. This includes summer storage,  full wintetization for an EC 360, inside (unheated) storage and Fall haul out and Spring launch. I pay extra for semi synthetic oil,  high efficiency Mercruiser oil filters and to have both engine drive alignments checked with the Mercruiser alignment OEM tool.

My boat insurance is $1,800.00 per year for very extensive coverage (plus it's a 2014).

My Summer slip includes WiFi,  good drinking water,  30 amp. electrical,  washrooms, showers and parking for one vehicle.

The docks are amazing,  almost 4 feet between slips with the main dock over 10 feet wide.  All new PT wood,  electrical  and water supply.  Plus they let me build a step and railing.   I'll post a pic in the Spring.

Then  there's the gas -  but been there don't care...........5-10K depending on use..

I'll launch late April or early May.  YAHOO !!!!!!!!

MT exact same setup for me. Also use semi synthetic. I'm  $2600 for slip and then $2500 for haul and return, winterization, maintenance and indoor storage. So around $5100 per year. $1000 for insurance with $2 million liability and full replacement cost for lifetime  (no depreciation) at value of $125k. Did you contact Jennifer Eaton?

I'm at $1680 for the slip ($70 a foot) and $125 to haul each way.

Interesting to see what slips cost in other areas. I am sure your marinas are nicer than mine so not comparing apples to apples. I lease an uncovered houseboat slip for 12 months for $4000 per year. Slip is 20' by 60' with water, 50 amp electric and unlimited pumpouts of gray and black water. We all gripe because we think it's too high.
  • Michael TMichael T Member Posts: 7,227 ✭✭✭✭✭
@6packummer,  sounds pretty reasonable to me,  particularly with pump outs included  and a 50 amp.  power.

I'm envious. My marina is a deal for the area, Mystic CT, at $105 a foot. I take the boat up the CT river in the offseason, closer to home, and it's $20 a foot for winter storage. I think our summer location is spectacular with some of the best cruising in northeast. We are an hour cruise from one of our favorite places on this world, Block Island. Our marina is great too with all the amenities you need, nice grounds and a pool for the kiddos.

We have this great local TV show called New England boating. This past summer they did episodes on both Mystic and Block Island.  If your interested google "New England boating episode 11 block". Mystic is episode 7.

Michael T, that was my point. After reading some of these prices mine looks pretty good. With little to compare to, we all think they are high. The slips are mainly houseboats but there are a few cruisers. My Rinker 212 is kept in storage 2 miles from the lake and trailered back and forth. That space has electric and water and is 15' by 35' for $850 per year. Everything on and around our lake is rented on a yearly basis, nothing seasonal.

It depends on location too. We are right on Lake Ontario in Oakville which is a very affluent city. You want that access, it's going to cost you.
