Windless For a 2007 Rinker 280 Express

Hi Guys

Just bought myself a 2007 Rinker Express,and I am looking at fitting a Windless,will the cables already be running to the chain locker,there is a windless trip already fitted,what make of windless and what model.

The boat is prewired for the windlass. The wires should terminate in or close to the anchor locker behind the mirror. I am not sure what model I have, but I will check for you.

I have a simpson lawrence horizon 600 windlass. It has been discontinued, but there should be a new version of it.

Navy CTRC, has great  point. The guy who bought my 2014 EC 360 had a windlass fail. Thankfully the company replaced the windlass. It was interesting to hear their comment that the windlass was, in their opinion, too small for that size of boat. So, now along with my advice to "go bigger" with engines, I'll add windlasses to that!

On my Rinker EC 310 and EC 360 they were vertical.

I have been trying to chase the windless power cables, they are wired up to the windless breaker and near the battery isolated switch, from there they are in a bunch of cables that go round the back of the boat then along side of the boat, then I can't trace them, how do I get access to see where they go, I have removed the mirror I front of the chain locker and looked inside but no cables, ????

They go to the helm first. If you remove the switches and the breakers, they will be in there. From there they travel to the anchor locker area.

Cheers guys, I will have another look next time am down at the boat.l looked in the anchor locker and no sign of any cables.

I must of removed every panel and still couldn't find the cables, where would the contactor be mounted if fitted.

any idea where the cable would be ??

Here are some pics. The wires in the anchor locker terminate on the starboard side of the boat up along the side.

In the dash, they are down and to the right.

On mine the Windless Breaker is next to the Battery Isolator and is wired up, and tye cables feed off somewhere, will have another look next time.

Yes, there is also a breaker where the battery switch is located.

My 280EC is all covered up. I will try and get in to it and look at the manual. Unfortunately I won't have access to the actual windlass until late March/early April.

taz, the 260EC uses a Quick Mini Genius G-150-M, and has worked fine for me.

I was able to sneak into the bow of my 280. The factory windlass is a Horizon 600.

The same on our 2003 FV310. When it died I looked for a rebuild option via Lewmar and they offered me a replacement ProSport 700 but suggested I go up a little due to size and weight to the 1000 that also gave me free fall option. Very happy with it and worth the extra - especially once I added deck switches to operate it from the bow.

How and where will I have to run the cables from the Helm to the anchor locker,I don't want them on show inside the cabin,

There is access from the port side of the anchor locker to the top of the TV/radio cabinet. From there there is access to the helm going across the top of the head shell. A fiberglass fish tape will probably work the best. In doing all of this, you may find the wires for the windlass. They are there somewhere.
