Smash on the anchor. Brings up some memories! On my first boat, I tried to break a bottle on the rail. Had a dent in that rail I had to look at for 7 years! LOL!
@07Rinker270. Most of the guys I know pop the cork and spray it on the hull. That's OK with Neptune. Champagne or Sparkling Wine (Champagne not from the Champagne area) is in very thick bottles to prevent explosion. A friend smacked the bow of his new Rinker 246 a while back and dented the rub rail and cracked the fiberglass. The bottle was fine, not a scratch on it. $2,500.00 in repairs (to the boat) later, we popped the cork and sprayed the champagne on it.
We used a Galleyware christening bottle, $15 at West Marine. The bottle is pre-scored so it's easy to break, and it comes in a mesh bag to capture the glass. I can testify that the bottle broke as advertised, and that Neptune was okay with it.
It produced a nice spray of champagne that made for some great photos.
@LaRea, I like that. That would be the only way I would break a bottle on my boat.
I have a story of a house party incident where the home owner got out his grandfather's sword to cut the top off a Champagne bottle (like he saw on TV) it did not go well! I'll save that for another time.
Yes, I bought the same exact bottle that @LaRea mentioned. Ceremony tonight went wonderfully and cracked the bottle with ease. What a great experience. Here is a pic back at the dock with the new name.
we we went for a play on the Merlot color and the fact that I make wine and we use the boat to let loose. I actually wanted to name the boat SCHITZENNIGGELS. Our last name is Niggel, just say it out load and you'll get it. Our first boat, a Rinker 212 was PT Cruiser, my wife and I are both physical therapists
Thank you @Michael T and @Trashman. I am really happy with the way it all turned out.
By the way I lightly smashed the christening bottle on the anchor bowl roller(I was on anchor so couldnt just hit the anchor), worked great. I mean I did it lightly, no damage. $15 bottle off Amazon.
Our favorite place besides on the boat is the beach. And our last name begins with an R. So we named the boat R - Beach. A little play on words that was fitting. Our prior boats name was Some Beach, Rinker 270. My 7 year old son named our dinghy Little Beach.
I always take a few trips on a boat, and let them name themselves. Here are a few that I have had.... My Sea Ray was "Get the net". My Dad and I took it on a fishing trip for it's maiden voyage, and the fishing was GREAT. It seemed like every 5 minutes, one of us was telling the other to get the net, and that just seemed to fit.
I had a Stingray that I had decided to gut part of the interior, and rebuild the passenger seating into a chase lounge style bench, that had a marine cooler underneath the cushion, and storage under the seat backing. That boat ended up being called "Wreck-Reation" because it looked like it got wrecked during my rebuild.
I had a Chaparral cruiser that was red. We named that one "Red Red Wine" for a toast to my wife's Italian heritage, her love of wine, and I really love that UB40 song.
My Four Winns was dubbed the name "Blooze Cruise" because it had several shades of blue, and one of the trips when we first got it, was rather wild with the adult beverages flowing, and the name just sorta stuck!
My Rinker 232 doesn't have a name yet. All I have done on it so far was the test drive, then brought it home and winterized it. The projects have begun now, but I am holding out on what to name it until a couple trips on it
I know a guy who bought a new Cruisers 52, but never got around to putting a name on it. After a few incidents of minor damage caused by striking submerged objects such as Planet Earth, some of his closest friends decided to name the boat Deathstar. However, they made this decision during a Rather Late Night when the owner was not there to defend himself, so the owner knew nothing about it.
The next day, the friends hired a signmaker to create a huge vinyl graphic of the name, complete with Star Wars artwork. Then they executed a stealth mission to apply the name on the transom, where it remains to this day.
The moral of the story: don't wait too long to name your boat -- and/or, don't hang out with my friends!

I heard that somewhere. It would be cool if someone would restore it.
"Spaulding, get your foot off the Boat!"
