Question on changing out my 2006 stereo

just bought a 2006 270 FV. it has the standard Clarion stereo with CD changer, 6 speakers and remotes at the helm and transom. It does not have an aux input. We love to use our iPod and phones to listen to music on the boat.  Has anyone upgraded their stereo to a unit that still allows the remotes to work at the helm and transom?

You can just add Aux input but to make remotes work with new or other systems is next to impossible

I did see that option. Might be able to add aux if it has red and white receptacles in the back but volume won't work with that option. Was hoping an updated Clarion would work the remotes.

Do eBay search
there are some that connect via rca and some that go via fm frequency
look up your receiver model and see if newer versions of the same brand etc support same wiring harness

I went all Bluetooth on my boat 
 replaced old junk with pioneer system.
now just need to add two more speakers and amp.
i only had remote at helm station. Now I have my phone controlling volume and songs anywhere on the boat

I have a 2006 so likely the same clarion stereo. I didn't want to change it because I've got remotes at the helm and in the rear which I like. Behind the head unit there are 3 sets of red/white rca jacks and one of them is aux in. I hooked up a rca to 3.5mm aux cable to that and drilled a small hole to exit the cable so that I had aux in. Then I use this plugged in to that 3.5mm jack to make it Bluetooth to my iPhone. All set for about $35.

Liberty44140 thanks. I hope my stereo has the same red/white jacks. I read that this might be an option. I will look at the back of my stereo this week when I go down to the Marina. That would be great. And thanks for listing the wires I need too!

What remotes do you have? 

I just installed THREE (yes three) different systems in my 270 before nailing it down to the one I think I'll like.. I actually just finished putting the remotes in today.

I've got a clarion m505 head unit, an MW2 wired remote at the helm (non LCD because the LCD backlight would blind at night) with an MW1 at the swim platform and to top it all off and MF1 (floating, waterproof wireless remote) installed as well.

I threw out the garbage amp that was in there and directly wired these speakers to the m505 ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E4N54GS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) and it performs like you wouldn't believe. 

Definitely switch over to blue tooth if possible. lets see a picture of your head unit and remotes!

Question about the amp on my 270- my port side speakers cut in and out. The amp in the cabin has a set of RCA cables that when I wiggle the port deck speakers work. I hoping that just the RCA cables are bad. Question is when the RCA cables exit cabin amp where do they go? They definitely go somewhere behind the helm. Is there a secondary amp?

the stock rca cables go from the back of the head unit to the amp and then on the other side of the amp it's connected via speaker wire to your speakers. If it's working I'd just replace the rca cables and hope for the best.  do you have the stock sony radio?

The remote is not compatible with the 505 according to the Clarion site.

I think I read somewhere on here that the old remotes will work with the 505 but you need converter connectors and the screens on the remotes won't work, just the buttons. I'm sure someone will correct me?

@Liberty44140 you are correct.  At that point you might as well just replace old remotes.  I replaced mine with the 505 and love it.

Will the remote and 505 hook right up to the remote wires? Or do I need to run new ones?

I'd try the old ones first... you've got all winter and those cables are stupidly pricey.

So far what I found was that the wrong cables still controlled the volume and all, it just didn't display the track info on the remotes.

I believe you need to new wires.  The cable looks similar but it wont connect.

You can use the old wires, but with the adapters that I listed above. You will need one on each end and the are specific to which end of the cable. One is for the head unit end and the other is for the remote end. If you use the old wires, you won't get all of the functions on the new remotes, more than likely the display.

Thanks all. Great winter project but with shrink wrapping I can only plan and locate the needed unit and wires. e ore-I will buy in the spring.  Lots of things go on my winter boat list including replacing the snap in carpets. Found them on line at "snap in carpets" for $603. Might try to have a carpet store duplicate then this winter instead

Is the carpet itself in bad shap or is it the backing that is just bad?

It works fine, but no Bluetooth. I'll look into adding this gizmo next season! Didn't want to have to replace the whole stereo system, and helm and swim platform remotes, if I didn't have to.

I added the bluetooth device to my Clarion stereo. If you place a pair of RCA "Y" cables with your Aux jack on one leg and your BT on the other, you get the best of both worlds.

@J3ff you just bypassed the amp and went right to the head unit, that worked ok?

Yeah I did just bypass the amp... when you turn the volume ALL the way up and there's a lot of bass in the song it does cut out, but that's not a problem for me... I don't listen to music at more than 70% volume ever.
