@Willhound you can actually put negative right in the gound with a digital multi meter. Battery switch on of course.

Sorry @reneechris14, maybe I'm being dense, but I'm not understanding. Positive probe to the "s" shaped wire in the underside of the Mercathode anode. But negative (ground) to where? On the anode somewhere?

@Willhound gound the earth, just push the probe in the earth (ground). Sounds weird but true. May have to wiggle a little, but you get a reading. See if I can find a link?
