So mine are slightly bent also... heavy loads and rough water take their toll... I'd have to check if the bolts go all the way through, but I don't believe they do.
Yeah, I remember a while back talking about this with Dirty and how much difference it makes his boat, especially with the pod drives. I believe Al even chimed in about it.
Thanks dirty30, nice that you have 3 instead of 2. Your screws look exactly like mine so I'd bet they are the same 2", 1/4" screws that they used in 2006 on mine. No thru bolt. Took them to a reputable machine shop today and they said $30 to straighten both. They warned that they might have a scratch or 3 from the process but would be minimal. They said my best bet is to straighten as the originals are made in bulk and hitting the right angles would be incredibly difficult and costly trying to change out just the tubes. Really would need to make all new and not re use ends.
@Liberty44140....let me know if you get an estimate to replace yours. I have had numerous posts regarding my swim platform being low in the water, and although Al has advised me that it is a manufacturing reality on my setup, i think bolstering my swim deck a little will go a long way to get the trailing edge up away from the water.
Hi @Dirtythirty - I did get them straightened. Picked them up yesterday and they look great. Was $20 total. The shop commented that it was easy because the tubes are thinner walled than they expected. So we will use them this summer and hope they stay straight. If they do bend this summer then next winter I will look at investing in getting new, thick walled, brackets made. Based on my discussions with this shop and another I would guess that having two new brackets made of all new materials/ends would be $200 - $300.
One additional comment - I mentioned 2" screws for this but that was an assumption. I measured and from the bottom of the head to the end of the screw is only 1 1/4". So I I am going to go with 1 1/2", maybe 1 3/4" if they have them. I believe it was said here that the transom is 2" thick.
I picked up my boat today from swim platforms.com. They installed my platform with 7/8" stainless tubing. I mentioned your bent supports to them, and that is the only one they know of to get bent, without an accident, or severe weather. He assured me I did not need a second set of support rods, even with my platform being 45" deep!
Well I got it all back together yesterday. I left the holes open for two weeks just to breath and then last weekend I painted the insides of the holes with west system epoxy just to seal and then fully filled them with thick west system. Yesterday I installed with 4200 sealant and it went well. Looks like @reneechris14 finally.
Very nice, nice and staight.hope to get my drives on next weekend so mine looks like yours,Saturday It snowed and today the yard was a little to wet to do the bellows and things,
@Dirtythirty that sucks. Is that corrosion from salt like Randy said or is that damage from the fall? Looks like you'll be up grading, with your newer boat I wonder if you can buy done pieces from Rinker?
I have a theory.....I noticed that my zincs were crusted over, and most likely not doing what they were supposed to, hence the stainless support took the hit instead of the zincs....the way that the metal was chewed up, could only be that...it wasn't from corrosion or rust, it's too clean of a cut on the metal.
