@Dream_Inn could it have to do with being on the lift and rubber dries out ? If the rubber stayed wet would it make a difference.well handys in a lift and does not have the same problem. just thinking out loud.
OK, it was definitely a bad hub! But, after they changed it, the other prop decided it was time for it as well! Oh man!! I'm wondering if the struggling with the one, caused the other to weaken??!! Oh well, two new props! Anyone want some new looking Bravo 2 props that just need new hubs installed? I wish I could find someone to put a good hub in it. Between the two props and 4 new batteries, I'm almost at 2 more BOAT units!
Because if I get them rehubbed, they won't last. At least that is what happened with one that I got rehubbed. Lasted not even a month. I should either sell my almost new props that just need rehubbed or take them for recycling. Time for me to buy another new set of spares! I'm a bit nervous that I haven't gotten a call back from the marina yesterday or today. Afraid to call to hear about something else that isn't working! Also getting nervous about the bill that is accumulating. I'm sure it is more than 10 boat units at this point. Like you said, can't take it with you!
Do you have same pitch/diameter as mine? I guess I'd have to figure out if I'd go with the same size or change slightly due to SS. My worry is that the SS still has a hub too. Is yours one of those hubs that just pull out and put a new in? Or does it have to be pressed in? I wouldn't mind one of those that is easily replaceable. Believe me, I'd like to have SS if I can get rid of this whole hub issue. @alswagg any opinions on this?
Got both of mine "refinished/fixed" for 125 total. Found a couple chips in one of the ears..figured maybe that was why I was having trouble getting 40+ with a 383.. we'll see!!

Yikes. That's cheap! I wonder why such a price difference, I'm guessing I'm paying for a service that's a little more involved. What you had done is probably all I need. It doesn't look like my props took a hit. Just minor Knicks. The prop place who quoted me comes highly recommended
Btw, j3ff, my corian countertop for the Cockpit sink and trash area should be here soon.
Is there really an alignment for the props?! Think about it for a second.... if you spin the front prop slightly, the back prop is going to spin in the opposite direction and they will be aligned. I think they are just showing you which way the angle of the props should be facing in that picture.

Point of Information for everyone. I contacted Merc about "prop timing" and this was the response:
Ray, There is no special timing of the props. Service manuals for engines and drives are available from local dealers or by calling our Publications Department at 920-929-5040, option #4. Have your serial number ready when ordering. Thanks, James MerCruiser Consumer Support

Got the bill. It was NOT 125 total.. as the original estimate was.. apparently it was a Friday after 5pm when that invoice was written. It was an estimate of 125 each, but in reality it was 225 each!! Arggg.

I've heard people saying the 4 blade props on an alpha 1 drive lifts the rear higher when underway.. wonder if it'd do the same for us with duoprops... I wouldn't mind that on my 270...
