Super easy to install, I'm going to put in two of them after figuring out where all the leaking is coming from on mine!!
Does bring up a valid point though- I'm more worried about it for sleeping.. having it up at the helm doesn't make much sense.. might just put it down stairs somewhere..
Most sinkings happen at the dock. Put it where your slip neighbors can hear it.
More concerned about waking up in the middle of the night with the water over my head!! I guess the real solution is two buzzers, one up top and one below.
As LaRea says if you ever hear that alarm go off - it is very loud. A friend whose wife was very nervous used their baby monitor. Set the base up at the alarm and the receiver by the berth. It was all battery operated so cheap to do - no wiring. He adjusted the base's sound pick-up threshold so that small noises would not be sent to the receiver.
I've been toying around with the idea of mounting one of these in the engine compartment, just about the "danger" line for the bilge. Cheap and easy (about $10 at my local hardware) and I figure I should be able to hear it through the aft cabin wall. https://yourhome.honeywell.com/en/products/water-alarms/reusable-water-leak-alarm
