Water Alarm

What activates this Water Alarm, I cant find it on the electrical drawing,

    I assume there is a float some where in the bilge.
    I wish I had one,as I do sleep on the boat alot.

    Super easy to install, I'm going to put in two of them after figuring out where all the leaking is coming from on mine!!

    Does bring up a valid point though- I'm more worried about it for sleeping.. having it up at the helm doesn't make much sense.. might just put it down stairs somewhere.. 

    Wonder where everyone else has theirs?

    mine is up at the helm as well.  I also wondered where the float is, and if it still worked....

    Most sinkings happen at the dock.  Put it where your slip neighbors can hear it.

    More concerned about waking up in the middle of the night with the water over my head!! I guess the real solution is two buzzers, one up top and one below.

    @J3ff if the water is over you head I don't think you'd even wake up would you? lol

    one of my biggest fears in life is to be sleeping on the boat and have water up high enough to wake me up!! Talk about panic inducing..

    Ever heard one of those alarms?  Put it in the cockpit.  You'll wake up.  So will everybody else within 100 yards of your boat.

    @J3ff I wake even if the Blige kicks on for second.plus it's salt water you float.

    As LaRea says if you ever hear that alarm go off - it is very loud. A friend whose wife was very nervous used their baby monitor. Set the base up at the alarm and the receiver by the berth. It was all battery operated so cheap to do - no wiring. He adjusted the base's sound pick-up threshold so that small noises would not be sent to the receiver.

    I've been toying around with the idea of mounting one of these in the engine compartment, just about the "danger" line for the bilge. Cheap and easy (about $10 at my local hardware) and I figure I should be able to hear it through the aft cabin wall.
