Anyone use the huge engine compartment for storage on their 270.

We could not live without the water heater. Use it all weekend every weekend for showers, dishes, admiral using it to wash up, etc...

With all this talk about hot water heaters and lots that fail.... what is the proper maintenance that should be done to keep them from crapping out? Should it always be drained(even throughout the season? Always on/off?

Definitely!  That raw water, especially salt or brackish, will corrode it very quickly.
