Air intake on my 2004 Rinker 312

I recently bought a 2004 Rinker 312 here in Norway. It has two Yanmar 4LHA-STZP diesels with Bravo 2X.
These engines need a lot of air (up to 30 m3 per minute). I have only found two tiny air-intakes in the bottom of the rear bench, and I don`t believe they can supply sufficient air.
Any experiences from you regarding "opening up"  for more air?

My man, I love your boat. Have you had issues regarding air intake?? Have you calculated what amount of air can go thru the 2 grills?

Can you post a picture of your bench intakes?

Nice boat. Do your bilge blowers blow in or out?

You may want to check your throttle cables too. Mine were too short from the factory

If it's like the 342 you have intakes in the gunwale as well.  In my case, the blowers go out the starboard side, but there are intakes on the port side.

Just bought it. Still on land. Engines are perfect for the boat, but it seems they have been running low on air ( sooting ) (Sorry for my bad english...)
There is a blower venting OUT. On ther outside of the boat there are no vents..??
I`ll try to get pictures on my next trip to the boat.

Yes I looked at some used 312s and I didnt see any vents either. Strange

There aren’t any vents behind where the camper canvas snaps on? It looks like there is a mesh material sewn on to let it vent?

BTW, your new boat looks great! What are the circles on the radar arch?

Former owner put them there (circles). Some Rinker logo. Obviously thought they looked nice. They`re coming off!
No vents at the back or sides either...
Former owner was seriously ill for several years, but he wasn`t able to keep the boat the way he wanted. Lack of tcl. Engines have only 450 hrs after 14 years. Needs to be  cleaned up, but everything works perfectly (even the blender). Rebuilt at import to 220V ( Norwegian standard). Now I`m cleaning the turbos, changeing exhaust and mixing bends. Orders from US as prices are more reasonable 
Think I will open up rear bench on the "end", that is towards the entrance from the platform and put in a big vent there (below the dog), and then open up bottom of the bench into engine compartment. Shoult fix breathing problems. (for the engines, not me...) PS! Former owners wife....)

I would put a nice stainless rectangular louver style right there on the left side as you are walking off the swim platform. I may add one myself. Then I may get to 36MPH. Also, I found the Yanmar exhaust elbows online for half of what Yanmar wants.

Planning one or two of these.

I bought my exhaustelbows from HDI Marine. Perfect and less than half the price in Norway.

This is the Norwegian net shop. I can assure you they ar not made in Norway       (nobody could afford them in that case)

Here is a screen shot of another 2004 312. You boat doesn’t have these vents on the side? Like I said, your camper windows have mesh on the sides for them. Even if you do, I agree that you need more so your engines can breathe better.

  Could I have missed them! Now I really feel like a jerk! I`m quite sure Rinker didn`t miss them on just my boat..
Calculating the air need I end up with approx 30 m3 air pr minute on 3000rpm
(Please correct me if I`m wrong) plus air for cooling the compartment. I have further calculated the area to approx 1500 sq cm. Meaning 30x50cm opening.
Still believe I will go on with my project on air-supply..

Thanks for your advice. When I put her on water I will do system cleaning on both fresh and saltwater side of cooling , wash turbos according to Yanmar instructions and change the oil. Then....I will check speed at different rpms.

Sometimes i wonder why I judt didn`t buy an old car...

unsnap the rear canvas, just above and to the right where the holders for the fenders are, and you will find exhaust vents. There are also vents on the sides, towards the rear, above the cleat in the last picture above.  At least that is where they are on my 310, which is the same basic boat.

Just out of curiosity, did you go for the Yanmar exhaust and mixing bends, or the aftermarket stainless?

Yes, I went for the aftermarket stainless from HDI. Don`t know why but I expected it to be  "shining". This is what I got.

Very good service from HDI. Quick response. Gasket was bent though. Looks right and at 1/3 of the price of Yanmar here in Norway ( included the $85 for mailing it).
