I do think big block would be the best way to go in a 342. Not sure I agree about the shower thing, but everyone uses their boat differently. We use the heck out of our shower, never a reason to go shower in the bathhouse. Heck, not too often do I use the bathhouse at all! I can get free pump outs any time at the fuel dock...so, if I do things correctly, I need gas at the same time .
It sounds like you know what you want, & that is good! I think people just have strong opinions on the 342 (including me), because out of all boats, it's gotta be one of the best and most popular that Rinker has built (270 is up there too because of trailering). Well, 2004 and newer ones anyhow (sorry guys with older, just IMHO).
I wish you the best but I will debate one thing with you. You say the v-berth has more room that's because the bed is very small at least the ones at my club. It was the first thing I noticed. My v-berth bed is a king size and very hard to make because it goes from one side of the boat to the other. S/R you can walk around the bed so it give the appearance of being larger but the bed is very small......... No biggie but just say'n

There was a 342 out of Michigan for a while that was big blocks and vdrives but that was the only one with that setup for sale that I saw when looking for mine.
Zav, my boss has a 340 Sundancer, and it is a very nice boat, but he continually has problems with prop shafts leaking water. It does have inboard engines that makes for more room in aft, which is plus. However, it is a plow getting on plane and is a gas hog, as only trim adjustment is with trim tabs.
Just my opinion. Then again I have a 232, not a big boy boat.
Well buyers are approved have insurance in place they just need to deliver the check and my 280 is going to a new home and a new beginning sad but I have to sell her and take a season or two off once settled in I will start shopping for 340 dancer or 342 or 360 Rinker if I get a smoking deal this fall or winter well no time lost lol forcbow going to tool around in my in laws express
