Headed south

Planning to pull out 2004 270 to fort Myer for the winter.
Anyone have any advise for a fresh water boater?
We've read a bit about boat preparation switching to aluminium anoids keeping bottom paint up.
Anything else any other advice someone may have?

Keep on a lift or trailer.

Trailering or cruising down? Intra-coastal or Mississippi? That's an ambitious run for a 270. But what an adventure.
Even trailering will be an experience.

Plan to trailer down and store inland on the trailer when we're not there.

Since you are storing her on a trailer, be sure to flush the engine and wash the trailer with fresh water.

Fuel docks are to far apart for 270, 100 gallons will not make it on the Mississippi. trailering down will not be bad. Watch out for Handy, he like to joke, drink  beer, watch football, laugh, and talk about Rinkers.

Funny you mention going down the Mississippi, headwaters start in our county here in northern Minnesota. Trailering will fit our timeline much better.
Handyman sounds like our kinda people.
    Thanks for the comment.

Just curious, is your fresh water boat equipped with closed cooling?  I'd have a really hard time putting my boat without closed cooling in anything other than fresh water.

A friend of mine at the marina that I dock at has a 250FV with 350MAG/B3 raw water cooled and he trailers his boat to Florida twice a year. He runs it in salt water and brackish water with no problems. All he does is flushes the system out after each run.

And you don't have to worry about manifolds and internal parts getting salt water- just the heat exchanger.

Ps- your heading to some real pretty boating...if you like islands and lots of restaurants on the water...check out cayo costs island in that area, north of Clearwater 3rooker island- very remote and cool!

We did a week last November and had a rental boat.
We did take it out to caya Costa. Mrs picked over shells for hours.
    Awesome sites to see!

There are a handful of homes you can rent on the island- hope to go back one day...

Made it down on the fourth of November! No issues other than a couple trailer tires which we happened to have exactly a couple!
Docked at burnt store marina, beautiful place. Even ran into a couple from out home town lake. (Very small world)
Back in the ice box now, upper 80s last week -4 here at home yesterday.
    Headed back the 28th!
Thanks for all the information and help!
    Boat ran great!
Fuel meter is next anyone hear of interactio fuel meters?

What year is your boat?  If it's 2003 or newer, maybe you should think about a Mercury Vesselview Mobile instead of a mechanical fuel meter.  Plug it into your engine, read data on your cell phone.

Steve - it's NOT personal....seriously.....you are kind to offer and from pics posted you are a great host but sometimes when we're near you events conspire to prevent a visit. If everyone you invited down showed-up you'd need a second home or bigger travel coach.
