270 FV Trailmaster Trailer hub/bearing help

So I had a bearing go out about a mile from my house last winter, I limped it home and let it sit. I started tearing into it today and it looks pretty bad. I think I’m going to need new drums & pads all the way around. Where do I find those?

The problem wheel hub looks like this.



My big problem is the marina is 80 miles away, I have a small local lake about 15 miles away I can probably take the boat to to unload off the trailer if I need to replace this whole axle.

Any info towards finding the bearings/seals is appreciated.

    And you can Jack and block the trailer with the boat on to do what you need to do- I would not move it.

    Ps- good time to look at your springs too- they are a hundred bucks a pair...

    Use a good bottle jack to raise the trailer I wouldn’t move the boat without fixing the wheel

    I was going to floor jack the axle up, put jack stands under the frame in front of the axle, then lower the axle down and hopefully I'll be able to unbolt it and take it out.

    When I did my springs I had stands...jacked up the trailer via the axle, put the frame on the stands ( had blocks under the stands to raise them) and then used a jack under the axle to remove the springs- so the axle was free of the trailer. I have a tandem trailer so some of the weight was on the second axle also..I have a 270 boat.

    I tried a floor jack and it wasn’t strong enough I ordered a 21 ton bottle jack from Amazon I keep it in the truck whenever I move the boat

    Just remember with a bottle jack and boat on trailer to either jack under a mount plate for the leaf springs or better yet use a metal plate under the frame to distribute the weight. The bottle jack puts an awful lot of weight on a relatively small point.

    So I can’t find an axle that is bent like the current one. All I find is straight now. I also found a tag. Axis Axle in Elkhart. If I have to weld on the spring plates for a new axle, I’ll be screwed.

    Also, welding on spring plates is not a huge issue. Get your new axle and your old one and any reputable trialer shop should be able to hook you up. 

    My sister used to eat dana 35 axle in her yj all the time. I got good at swapping in Cherokee axles.

    Contact Trailmaster, they should be able to help you out. @Alswagg is a dealer for them, so he might be able to be a go between. You could also call Axis. They still bend axles for Trailmaster. I have a 2017 Trailmaster trailer with the same axles and they are bent.

    I talked to Axis today. No way to look up this old axle, but I got measurements for them and some pictures. I’m going to call back tomorrow and see if I can email them pictures.

    A few tips on race replacement,Put races in freezer before installing and they will tap in pretty easy.
    A bearing that has busted apart leaving the inner race stuck on spindle can be removed by heating one side with a torch then hammer the heated area which will distort it and it will slip right off.
    Welding a bead around the outer race will shrink it enough to almost just fall out.Do not burn through!,it don't have to be a "pretty bead"
