Faded Exterior Corian Countertops

My corian countertop up in the cockpit was faded since I bought the boat and always bothered me. It really started to bother me when I placed an empty bottle of trim fluid on it last summer and it leak and made a spot on it! Today I was in the cabin and saw a bottle of olive oil and I had a thought. If the trim fluid did that to the corian I bet I can wipe the olive oil all over to blend it in. Well, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I was done. Looks brand new again! I’ll see how it looks in a few weeks and reapply if needed. It looks exactly the same as the countertop in the head now.

    Home Depot sells a spray sealant for granite that does the same thing and lasts for ages! I use it on my BBQ countertop at home.

    @YYZRC I’m going to re-bottle the olive oil and sell it as Italian corian rejuvenation oil for triple the price.

    I still think you should refurbish parts and sell them. You never bit on my idea for you to become rich and famous.

    @YYZRC , did you go look at your 330 in person? I think I remember it was listed in Westchester (maybe)? We could’ve met up then!

    No I didn’t. It was such a good deal I bought it sight unseen, just got a survey and hoped for the best! It was in Mamaroneck.

    Sounds like easy fix if it lasts.  I wonder, since corian is a manufactured product, could it be lightly sanded and buffed like fiberglass to return it to original look?

    Yes you can apparently. I have a corian top for my bar downstairs with some scratches in it from the PO. Was told it can be sanded out and polished but the potential dust put me off doing it and a nice bar runner overcomes the issue.

    You can get corian buffing/polishing goop from Lowes Depot, probably does the same as @aero3113 did with the oil.

    Yes.  I know someone that has sanded their corian every spring (Bob for those that come to Rinkervous).  It looks beautiful!

    I remembered that there was some corian over at the helm, it wasn’t as bad as the countertop. With the special sauce, it really looks great.

    Don’t forget the ultra useful “cup holders” beside the chart storage lid!

    Ahhhhhh!! How did I forget about that!! There’re probably so sun faded they blended in with the white gel coat! I’ll go out and do them now! LoL

    That looks amazing!!
       Now I don’t want to be “that guy”, but just keep an eye(and nose) on it as olive oil will go rancid(so will vegetable oil). Any type of vegetable(corn, olive, sunflower, etc) oil will go rancid… i think mineral oil would be a safer bet.

    I though about that when I was using it. When olive oil goes bad it tastes horrible but doesn’t really smell too bad. I think it will be fine, so little was used also.

    I’m only speaking from knowledge of cutting boards(soaking into the wood)…  I’m sure it will be fine. I use mineral oil or a product called Odie’s Oil (it’s a “hard wax oil”) on cutting boards. I wonder how well it would work on corian. Hmmm

    I wonder how it will hold up over the summer? I have to do something with mine, they are definitely a little faded from 9 years of UV.

    My brother works in a corian shop & said you could sand the top with 800 grit & it would clean up real nice.

    Sand it with 800 grit on a DA sander to get all the scratches out then buff with buffmagic and polish if you want it to shine. Its solid surface material so you cant hurt it. Way better than slathering something on it and hoping for the best

    Sanding will only get surface scratches and chalking out. Stains that won’t come out, you need to oil it.

    I am curios as to what stained the Corian so badly. Short of a bad burn most everything seems to sand out?
