Engine temperature rising

John41John41 Member Posts: 115 ✭✭
I own a 2004 Rinker 342. I have the 5.7 Volvo engines. Yesterday I went on a 2 hour ride. I noticed my starboard engine temperature gauge rising. It reached around 185-190 degrees and stayed steady the whole trip. My engines usually are steady at 175. Any thoughts what could be going on?

    How old are your impellers?

Raw water or closed loop?  If the latter when was the last time you cleaned your heat exchanger?

Impellers were changed 2 or 3 years ago. Raw water…

I would start there. Impellers are relatively easy to change on the Volvo. You could also pop open the thermostat housing and make sure you don’t have any issues there. Cheap to replace thermostats/gaskets if you haven’t done so recently.

If in salt water I'd also toss in new thermostats.  In fresh water they can last for decades

You posted about this issue last summer; did you check the condition of your risers?

Definitely recommend changing impellers, then check each section of hose to see if there are any debris restricting the flow.  The one you aren't going to like is when was the last time you changed the raw water input at the transom assembly?  if you are on the older TA's that hose gets blocked.  Just google bravoitis.

I will try the impeller and the thermostat. If that doesn’t work I guess I will have to get my mechanic to take a look at  the riser.

Last year I was having the same problem except it wasn’t running as hot as it was this weekend. I had a temperature and checked the temperature at the impeller but it checked out ok
