Outdrive does not stay up

2005 Fiesta Vee 270.  Outdrive does not stay up... How do I determine if the problem is with the pump/valve body or the ram ?

The outdrive goes down slowly by itself and can be pushed down with my hand.  Tiny leak (not even a whole drop) at the top of the ram cylinder.  Pump motor sounds good.

    Possibly the valves not holding in the pump

    If only one ram had a problem, the other ram would hold the drive up.  You might have two faulty rams, but probably not.  That logic suggests a problem with the pump.  

    Can you also push the drive up by hand?  

    A pump rebuild kit costs under $100 and can be installed in a couple hours.

    Thanks.  This model has only one ram.  I didn't try pushing the drive up. I'll check out that and the valve body. 

    Would you expect to hear fluid moving in the valve body when the drive is pushed down?

    mine had the same issue and the mechanic mis diagnosed it, replaced the ram. turned out to be a pin hole in the hose. same model drive.
