new tow mirrors

luckydogluckydog Member Posts: 316 ✭✭✭
Just installed new tow mirrors for my truck, the old ones (original ones) weren’t relay for towing I was going to buy towing mirror extensions but it’s around 60-70 dollars for a decent par, I found these after-market ones and were extremely easy to install them they fit like a glove, they do have a small upward angle to them but that’s an easy fix

I have no idea the boat I the largest thing I'VE towed with it, but it tows the boat with no problem at all

  • diggin2day1diggin2day1 Member Posts: 1,331 ✭✭✭✭
Towing capacity for that truck is approx 15,000lbs. DRY WEIGHT of the boat is 12,300lbs, plus the weight of fuel, water, gear, food and then add the weight of that sweet a$$ trailer... Chances are you're over the legal limit... But you should get a free pass on looks alone!!
  • luckydogluckydog Member Posts: 316 ✭✭✭

Trailer weight 2300 lbs. boat is Dry Weight 7300 lbs.

Sorry Luckydog... I looked at your profile and it says you have a 2003 FV312... I didn't zoom in enough to see that the boat in picture is a FV280. Nothing to see here, carry on....

    awesome set-up!!!

only thing I have to offer is this, and it doesn't apply to you, dog:

newer (2008+) diesels have a regeneration process as part of their emissions, and the heat is intense during that event... Ford actually had exhaust tips designed to help disperse the heat- but it still gets wicked hot if you're standing near that exhaust outlet.   If any of you pull your rigs any appreciable distance, and you're running an 08+ rig made by any of the 'big three', you might want to consider some deflector of some sort to protect your gelcoat.  sitting idle is potentially even more dangerous for your towed boat...

when I say hot, I mean it... just past the exhaust filter it can easily be 1500*...

So they have def tanks also?
  • 212rowboat212rowboat Member Posts: 2,593 ✭✭✭✭✭
i think the DEF became the 'way' in around '11 for all three.. duramax and cummins did it before ford... ford washed cylinders on exhaust stroke and sent it to the DPF to be ignited prior to DEF being used... no matter how the soot is being burned off in the DPF, it's pretty dang warm.
  • rasburyrasbury Member Posts: 9,004 ✭✭✭✭✭
oh yes for sure.....before the def, the Ford exhaust looked like a flame blower....the new trucks also have an optional manual regeneration so you can control where that happens..

If I buy a new truck it wouldn’t be a ford pickup truck I had 3 in the past 5 years and had nothing but trouble constant break downs, it could be that my employees ride them hard but just had better luck with Chevy’s right now I have 3 Chevy’s 2 2500 and 1 1500 and they have lasted the test of time, I will say this my wife loves here ford mustang GT LOL

  • luckydogluckydog Member Posts: 316 ✭✭✭

I just read my last post I said and I quote (If I buy a new truck it wouldn’t be a ford pickup truck) well I’d like to show you all my new truck Eating crow  1...Fig. to display total humility, especially when shown to be wrong. Well, it looks like I was wrong, and I'm going to have to eat crow. LOL

sweet lucky- what motor? The newer diesel seems to be doing pretty well but I'm not sure anyone's' diesel is worth the expense unless you just drive a ton of miles. Pretty truck for sure! Hope it works out well for you. If you want to replace some of those Chevy trucks ( as I hear the exact opposite) perhaps I can help you down the road...
