Raised seat pic

As per the discussion I started
http://rinkerboats.vanillaforums.com/discussion/4871/anyone-else-find-the-cockpit-seat-too-low#latest

Heres the pic.......it doesn't stand out that much, I'm crouched down to take the pic. Probably most wouldn't even notice its raised.  Seat also goes back further as a bonus. Used 4in alum. square tube, 5in stainless bolts, right through tube. Fits and mounts perfect.

Beautiful job, looks OEM. IMO no need to powder coat but some spray primer and a nice finish white spray from a can would finish it off!
  • BellevilleMXZBellevilleMXZ Member Posts: 732 ✭✭✭
Yeah I'm going to try it a bit and see if I notice it, or like the look. Hard to judge all covered and with a worklight inside. If stands out too much I'll put some white vinyl on it, that would save pulling seat and painting.

True, or you could easily tape-off with some plastic and use a shop vac for over spray? No matter what, real nice fix!
  • BellevilleMXZBellevilleMXZ Member Posts: 732 ✭✭✭

True could do that too, good point !

I would trim back the one that is sticking out slightly. That corner could cause a nasty injury if bad weather..... Looks great!!!!

I was going to suggest storing a fire extinguisher inside the tube, but I guess the bolts would be in the way.  Unless you used separate top and bottom bolts ...

Sooner or later, the aluminum will corrode.  Could you dress the tubes with thin panels of Starboard instead of paint?
  • BellevilleMXZBellevilleMXZ Member Posts: 732 ✭✭✭
Yeah bolts all the way through. ......was thinking vinyl wrap would be easy

I was going to suggest the same thing or add some rubber end-caps like these, you can probably Plasti-Dip them white.

This looks good. I have the same problem. I have a 280 and it would be awesome if it was 2-3 inches higher. Looks good @BellevilleMXZ

Anyone know what the options are for longer seat posts in my 246?  I'm 6' 7" and I could use the seat up a few inches myself even before the seat bolster.

Yeah I'm going to cap the fronts, and leave it like that for a bit, looks very good in person. That pic is from eye level sitting on the seat, so it doesn't stand out too bad.

I am not @BMXZ but my former construction company did a lot of fabrication with metals. The aluminum box stock that @BMXZ used should be available in varied lengths, sizes and thicknesses at any decent metal fabrication shop. If you are lucky, like @BMXZ was you can get some cutting left overs from a cutting bin (ask that question when calling around) which should be cheaper than having it cut for you as there may be minimum length charges.

All you guys have tilt wheels?
  • raybo3raybo3 Administrator Posts: 5,622 admin
Steve you have tilt wheel also. The "lever" is at the bottom of your wheel.

Nice idea! Yeah the seat position on mine is too close for me even at full push back and like you say with you raising allows you to push back further. It's on my to do list!

I like the idea will have to check mine out when out of storage. Thanks for all these forums
