    Handy- What if you have a South Bay Strainer... Doesn't that eliminate the water pickup through the outdrive?

    Most boats with strainers have a Y-pipe (dual pickup).

    So how does the dual pick up fully solve the problem?  I understand that you need water flowing through the outdrive to cool it.  How does water flow through the outdrive after the through transom fitting closes up due corrosion?

    Thanks BD!  Was the replacement needed due to the common corrosion issue that collapses the hose?  If so, what do you do about the corrosion?  I see people saying that they replace the hose but don't address the corrosion so it seems like the corroded area is able to accept a new hose.

    I am in fresh water, do had no corrosion. The hose got kinked/twisted as it makes the 90 degree bend and thru the transom.  

    I suspect ot was not put in right, was new last year. The new part has a rigid plastic part now to prevent that.

    Well got my impeller out. Not one crack. 4 seasons and 150 hours. It is a Johnson pump made in Sweden.

    Those diesel engines don't spin fast enough to wear out the impeller.
