Made to the marina in a boat 5 hours.seemed like the boat ran better and better as we went along.last owner did not use her much so running fresh fuel for that long helped. The 342 is a beast compared to the 270.This weekend will consist of cleaning her up.

Nice 5 hour shake down cruse, ,  glad you got her home. I do not want to here about how much better the 342 is than the 270. Cause I'm not ready yet.
So what was your cruse speed? It looks good!

cruise speed seemed to good at 27~29mph could not tell rpm no tachs. still seemed to plan out around 18~20mph top out around 36ish.She needs alot of polishing and fixing of small things ahh like the tachs.

Always when you buy, you have a laundry list of things to do. Next month, it will be top shape and ready to enjoy.

@reneechris: I am interested to hear your impression of the 342 over the 270.  The admiral didn't like the side to side stability of our old 270, something she termed as tippy feeling (most noticeable in a beam sea).  How did the 342 compare in this regard?  Speed numbers look pretty similar to the 270 with 350 MPI (300 hp).  How did the power of the 342 compare with that of your old the 270?

@MDboater I have a 342 and a friend of mine had a 270. No comparison the 342 blows away the 270. So much so he went out and bought a 342. Also the 270 had a hard time keeping up with choppy water.

I had a 270 and went to a 360.  Its hard to even compare the two.  I really liked the 270 boat but i love the 360, which is more of a ship.  I can't even rock mine.  The 270 was definitly tippy in comparison.  You are talking about a boat that is 3 times as heavy and a beam that is over 3' wider.  I also much prefer being in close quarters and docking with my 360 over the 270.  You will be happy with a 342 or MY 360.. ;-)

Reneechris - congrats on the boat.  See you at Napatree next season!  Actually we may go there this weekend if weather cooperates...

Like Craig said much more stable.power,I use about 1/2 thoddle to get on plane, is a little faster 20 mph when I could keep the 270 up at 18mph the 270 was very tough to get on plane.fuel 13 an hour for the 270 and 20 an hour for the 342.I can't say much for docking yet I'm in a drive in slip for now.Craig I will back down your way next year. The River was easier because I'm taking her home to Stafford ct.

No way you plane at 20mph. I don't know any 342 that does that. Most drop out at 26

I don't think the motors make any difference.

Wouldn't motor weight make a difference.

Maybe but mine weigh the same as a 5.7

@Handymans342:  Does your 342 drop out of plane at 26 mph even with full tabs?
  • reneechris14reneechris14 Member Posts: 3,134 ✭✭✭✭✭
Just busting on you.handy .but you are right the lowest cruise speed would be 26.and on the 270 it would be 22.for me any way. MD have you had the admiral on a 342?The space is a Huge difference. You can actually close the door to go pottie.while she's in the shower.

@reneechris14 I also think that your burn of 20 GPH is a little lite also. I would add about another 10 or 12 GPH to that...... Just say'n.....

With tabs and drives down my 342 with gas 350s will plane at around 3400 going 17 mph. We do that when going in to choppy Lake Erie seas!
