hole in my black water tank

In a previous thread I have all sorts of "fluid" issues down in my engine compartment, one pretty stinky. It seem to be a pretty intermittent problem with the tank and I think an issue since we bought it. I finally broke down today and pulled the tank out. On the side up against the hull there is a perfect small hole, about 1/8 to 3/16 in diameter. I don't think anything would have poked a hole like that, its pretty thick anyway. I don't see anything around it that would have done it. I guess I will be able to put some sort of plug in it and fix it. Also, I assume to would plug it from the inside and then eventually it would move and leak...very odd!

    You might want to just look up some type of epoxy or resin that is made to plug it.  I'm sure there is something out there specific for that.  It certainly would be worth a little extra to know that leak is taken care of.  Glad you found it!

    Me to- it is not a puncher- like a drilled perfect hole. It must have had some sort of a plug in it at some point, just can't imagine what purpose it could be for...

    With sucking the stuff out of it, I'm thinking it has to be something more mechanical rather than a filler or I'll just be pulling it out again...

    @rasbury do you have an indicator to tell you the level? The indicator use a screw type to make a ground for the gauge. Just a thought

    No, nothing like that - and between the hull and the tank....does not lol like anything was ever there and probably there since new...weird!

    I've got a similar hole on my tank only mine is on the other side to yours facing the engine. No idea what it's for.  Mine is towards the top of the tank and central. I very rarely use my tank so it's never caused me an issue. Be interested to see how you plug yours as I'll do the same on mine

    I found a permatex product for fixing holes in plastic tanks and available at auto parts stores. Will grab today and give I a shot. Sounds like it will work. What a pita though..

    Depending on the size, you could always fit a screw into it with epoxy.  But, I think the permatex is worth a shot.

    Most black water tank are made of Polyethylene looks like a grease or oily plastic, epoxy will not stick to it also doubt that Permatex will  stick properly. But a patch could be weld over the hole.

    could you drill the hole out a little larger then tap threads into it and use a plastic or nylon bolt with a liberal application of permatex on the threads to seal it in?

    I may do two fold- going by Ace on the way home and see if I can find something in nylon I can use as a sort of plug and then put the patch on top of that...I don't want to ever deal with that dang hole again...nasty!
