@PickleRick I have never determined what the fuel burn rate is for different speeds and RPMs. But I imagine it's a lot at 50 MPH.

My fuel burn is ridiculous when I'm going 40+mph!  Heck, most people would think it's ridiculous at my cruise speed of ~30mph.

Do any of you're newer operating systems have a flow meter that can be accessed in live data?  Would be sweet to dial in the optimum rpm.

I have live flow burn for optimizing.  It definitely helps when it comes to tweaking.

Thats gotta be handy, a flow meter is in my wish list.  I've only seen them on newer outboards.

Starting around 2002-2003 with Smartcraft (on Mercruiser), you can access that type of information.  I use an older Vessel View to monitor mine.

I have an old VV4 and was able to connect my GPS to is using the NMEA 0183 connector.  As a result I get MPG on the display.

The whole thing is silly at this point.  I have  no side to choose with.  It has been entertaining for sure though hahahaha. 

I drive a Diesel truck, and an EcoBoost powered SUV. Both are great, in their intended uses.  My truck weighs in around 8400 lbs, and I really have no clue on the Explorer.  440 hp, 900 ft lb torque, vs. 290 hp, no clue on torque, but much lighter and my truck would hands-down win a race.  Does that mean anything?  NOPE!  And it doesn't prove a dam thing either lol 

My Merc 350MAG is a dead-heat against my buddy's Volvo/Penta 350MAG

So what did we learn here.  @PickleRick knows a lot about diesels and other engines.  He also knows a lot about boats, and road racing, and hockey.

And that's when he's sober ... imagine how much he knows when he drinks!
