Hey Tony, sorry that this is dragging on in Chicago. Glad you are getting a credit. I’m surprised that the company running the harbors has yet to put out any kind of an updated communication.
They just posted the update a couple of hours ago. It's open ended with the usual political-speak: "working with the city..." "let you know as soon as things change..." "hoping for the best..." kind of stuff. My guess it'll open for sure June 1, if not sooner.
The big harbors in Chicago are municipal, so City run.
The high water level is going to cause all kinds of havoc at marinas: electric, under water, wave damage. Good news os my swim platform is just about even to the finger pier (as of last season and higher water now). 😆
In this area, reports say Maryland is the only state that currently prohibits recreational boating. You can move a boat to its permanent mooring/slip, or you can fish. Fishing must be for food to feed your family -- an important distinction with rockfish season starting.

Illinois technically is allowing recreational boating - limit two people per boat - starting tomorrow (May 1) -- but since Chicago is keeping the lakefront closed, by default the harbors will still be inaccessible. If you live in one of the burbs, you may still be able to put a boat in the water. That's what is allowing @Liberty44140 to sea trial his boat.
Wow. I guess the fear of losing water over the winter with a late or no freeze of the lake is over....I assume this is all the great lakes? Even with our hurricanes, our stuff in FL seems minor to events around the country...
Usually the lakes drop a bit from late fall to spring. This year Lk Michigan hit a record high level in January. Now we are seeing surges that can move the level up a foot plus in minutes. Cool to see water move like that. Had a few “cottages” fall into the lake here recently too.
The chain and Fox were closed more than 30 days last year. The winter of 18/19, the chain boat dealers had record sales years (economy driven) the summer if 19 the marinas and gas docks had their worst year ever (weather driven).
@Liberty44140 - Sunny and 60's today. With frost and a high of 42 predicted tomorrow, you couldn't have picked a better day for your sea trial! Let us know how it goes. Good luck!
Hey guys thanks, super excited. I talked to my broker in Chicago tonight and he was pretty upset, said that Chicago harbors are now definitely closed through June? So sorry guys, sounds like the Mayor is no friend to boaters.

That’s too bad @Liberty44140 , I don’t understand how the worst hit area (NY) is open to boating, how can that be?

I'm just happy to get access to the boat.
Let us know how the sea trial goes.
