We used to have old car brought to high school near the end of the school year. For $5 the kids could take 5 swings with a sledge, proceeds to charity- could you imagine trying that now?
There are company’s all across the country that allow you to smash things, I just googled and this is one in NYC. Maybe we’ll have our daughters first birthday there! LoL
Well on the Columbia you could sign it over to some homeless person and they'll love on the river. Occasionally you see a boat with some signs on it saying this is their right and blah blah blah. Meanwhile they are dumping trash and sewage in the river.
Some peeps in inda put their poop, pee, trash and their dead in a river that they believe has magical healing/spiritual powers. They also drink from, get food from, do laundry in and bathe in this river yet you never hear about dysentery or other of the diseases you'd think you'd hear from with millions eating, drinking and pooping all in the same spot.
Those were bats in China although there are reports it was a virus or several viruses tied to labs from the U.S. and Australia which have been altered.
Great example of a boat that is ready for the shredder. Best guess, she's a 1989 Formula 29 PC. The engines haven't been started in 25 years. Her last time afloat was in 2003, when the flood tide from Hurricane Isabelle temporarily floated her a few inches off the bunks of her lift.
In 1989, she was a beautiful, fast boat. Now she's home to birds, raccoons and other unspeakable horrors. She serves no purpose other than blocking the water view of the $2M home next to her. It's sad to think that she had a useful life of only 6-7 years.
This ghost ship has been sitting in the Port of Chicago since 1982. At the beginning of the year they announced it would finally be moved and cut up for scrap. Haven't been past it since Covid started, so it'll be interesting to see if it actually "disappears" next time I drive by.
The story doesn't say why they call it a ghost ship, has a well documented past which kind of takes the ghost out of the story.
It was a very interesting history, just wasn't ghostly.
Ghostly imho is like that sailboat they found floating in the ocean, the single handed captain died while sailing and the salt air mummified his body in the cabin.
Any insight to the ghost part of it?
There are some really good youtube videos of abandon boats but this isn't one I've seen before so please more details.
@PickleRick - You are absolutely correct that it isn't a ghost ship in the true sense of the word. That thing has been there for almost 40 years and the current owner is now going to remove and scrap it and get a cool $1M for the scrap metal.
My big question: Has anybody been paying dock fees for the last 40 years - and/or if they haven't why wasn't a maritime lien put on it and then sold off for scrap by the Port which could use the $1M for past fees?
yeah, rode past that this morning. The larger one was there last week, now the little showed up over the weekend. Not sure what is with that. I'll see if another one gets added as the week goes! I'm actually surprised they'd leave them there so long. I thought about stopping to look for parts.
I had a 21" Stingray boat that was a BLAST to drive. Even though that thing only had a 4.3 V6 in it, it would hit the mid 50's. I can't imagine that hull with a big block in it
