I was able to permanently run the wire from the antenna through the arch and into the cabin. I’m contemplating if I should hard wire the plug for the router or just use the 12 volt socket like I have it. I have to get a plug to close off where the wires go into the cabinet, I utilized the hole that was there for the aux plug.
I notched the base of the light so the wire would snake under and through the hole. In the third picture it looks off-centered, that’s because it wasn’t lined up with the screws in.
Nice job @aero3113 . But I know that plug coming out from behind the door is going to bug you. I'm betting you'll wire it or install a plug in the cabinet in case you want to unplug it.
Wish us luck, were spending our first night out on the hook tonight! (Don’t forget we have 2 girls, 11 month old and a almost 3 year old,LoL). My wife had to do some work and brought her laptop with her. Wifi has been working great and no complaints!
Still working great second season. I love being able to check on the boat anytime I want. I can also see if AC power is up and running, if not the camera switches over DC.
Now that you've ironed out the hard bits... the Rinker might get a few of these nifty tiny 12vdc vehicle cameras! Those plus a cheap vehicle-intended CCTV DVR and a rPi Zero Wireless and you have free cloud backup in near-real-time, with remote access for a phone.
@Dude_Himself , it would be pretty cool to put a camera or two in the engine bay to keep an eye on things.
Totally agree. It is possible with Raymarine to use their camera's to see your engine room on most modern plotters, but their cameras are crazy expensive. I have done a little research online to try to find a camera to mount in the engine room that would connect wirelessly to a phone or tablet without "external" wifi to no avail.... they are all like the Ring where you need home/marina wifi to support connection, but I admit to not knowing much about cameras so one of you may already know of an option.
I keep it in the cup holder by the map case and leave it plugged in at the port side plug by the arch. I could use it without the adapter and just have it run off the internal battery (what it does when I’m out and don’t have the generator running). I also like having it plugged in so I can see that shore power is working when I’m at home.
