Good Question. Initially, yes, but now, no. I do get the odd pang when I see a cruiser out on the lake on a perfect, sunny calm morning, on plane and flags flying. Brings back many happy memories. I'm happy I got to live out one of my long time dreams, and might do it again some day but it'll likely be a center console fishing boat someplace warm.
At the end it didn't make financial sense, we were spending an average of $10,000 a year for slip/maintenance and a bit of fuel. We're just a year or two from retirement and realized those $$ were better off topping up the retirement fund and will likely pay for a place someplace warm in the winter. My wife had also developed a case of vertigo that is getting worse with time, so found the wave action more difficult. And finally, our marina went down the toilet. To generate revenue a new owner brought in a food truck and rental boats/PWC's/kayaks etc so we had a lot of issues with outsiders messing with the boats. When the day came to sell the buyer literally started piling up $100 bills until I was satisfied. Got what we paid for it 4 years prior, although of course I had done plenty of upgrades. And sold without any conditions or surveys. I had 4 hours from the time we made the deal to get our stuff out of it before they drove it away. Never heard from them again.
I've meant to tell this story for awhile, so thanks for asking, and maybe Pic of the Day is not a great place, but it does allow me to share a pic of our current recreational set up. We found a spot in an RV park about 10 minutes from our house and a nice 40 foot unit to occupy it. Wife loves it, and so do I. Our plan is to sell the house and this will be our summer abode, and something the same someplace south.
I should add that if we still had the slip we'd be up to $8000 in fees this year. Our new place is about half that and has a swimming pool and plenty of other amenities we like. And no fuel cost and way less maintenance. Yes, we've gone to the dark side.
Stays there. Year round site with seasonal occupancy May 1 to Nov 1. It'll likely never move as long as I own it. It's on blocks and besides, 40'8" overall and 12,000 lbs....I couldn't pull it if I wanted to....😆
I get it- I'm assuming the need for space has changed later in life....I'm 65 and still "raising a family" so would have been the plan ,(boat) but God just chuckled...
Season is over 😔. I got to control the lift and put the skis on the trailer then cleaned the ski dock. Really nice day today and if my wife was home we would have gone for a ride.
Had a slight gear oil leak on the front left and rear right axles of the Land Cruiser. Finished the rear and now onto the front! New bearings, races and seals all around. Look how bad the knuckle bearings were! Fun stuff!
Never fails! I go to finish up my front Left knuckle and hub rebuild and a bolt snapped! Luckily I was able to drill and extract it. New bolts on order!
