OK, I like what you did here...how about instead of a hole put a slot open at the top. That slot could be v shaped so as you raise the engine hatch the door would just eventually open vs break the dang latch? Is this post good for patten?
@rasbury you need @j3ff to 3D print something like this (set the angle of the slot to the angle that your hatch opens at, I just ballparked this at around 25 degrees).
Obviously the bolt cannot extend beyond the plastic disc into the fiberglass hatch.
We make it adjustable, also a piece of rubber behind it that also covers the slot so it does not rattle....I wonder how many people would buy one? I've broken at least two of them....I think I have a Lowes version on there now...
I ended up buying one from Menards for parts. I inserted the sliding piece after I shortened it. It is a little thinner but that helps with alignment. I had to bend back my hinges twice now Thanks
I'm going to break down and get a new one- and bend my hinges back..which I've been afraid to do- but the snap to hold the door open no longer lines up so a bot of a pain- I figured they would break...
I transitioned my metal slider into a wood dowel slider. Now when I’m an idiot and open the engine bay with the door latched, the dowel just snaps. I have a bag of replacements ready to go.

So what did you do for a ",nob", something to grab to work it back and forth? I've tried a couple of things that just did not work out! I will say, the one now I have not managed to break. Did I just say that?
I bought a similar latch that was for a garage door or gate or something. I used that shaft only that already had a knob. I use the original housing for that shaft and. I modified the length a little bit with a pedestal grinder. I can send you a picture next time I'm out there maybe 4th of July

I used a screw with a hex head that had a decent shank and made of shiny silver metal. I made up like 5 of them cuz I’m an idiot often. Just ask my wife.
