I’ve heard there’s something in the rubber they like. I’ve also been told to always leave the boat with outdrives straight. Boots are protected better that way.
That makes sense @Spyderweb. I've said before, after chasing various leaks, the express cruiser and up have a lot of holes in the hull for something. Any I/O I guess...after putting my motor back in i had a heck of a time with the shift boot staying on my bravo III...
Im about to tackle the shift boot on my bravo 2. The lake is down nearly 9 ft and i was rounding a point that should still be 10 ft deep according to the chart and it was maybe 4 ft. I trimmed up and slowed way down. Got to the docks where the admiral could take some trash to a dumpster and noticed i no longer had forward. I had netural and reverse. I could disconnect the shifter from the engine and push it into forward. We walked it onto the trailer by hand and towed home. Removed the drive to find the cable had separated from the crimped on threaded fitting end.
Theres hardly any room to access the shift boot. Im due for a new gimball and bellow come spring so i figured id do it all at the same time, bellows are easy to work with when its 97 degrees outside anyway. I hope with the u joint bellow removed i have plenty of room to work with the cable and shift boot. Removing the helmet isnt something i want to get into.
Going to check to verify the lube oil hose is still nice and flexible while I'm in there, its also about 5 years old
