Looks good, congrats! Did you do all of the vinyl cleaning with acetone and a magic eraser? Or did you use something else too? They look great! I'd like to get mine to look that good. Congrats again and welcome.
The vinyl thins out a little with the acetone, so where it was getting thin I touched it up with Clean Boat. After the acetone, it's very important to put a protectant on it since it takes off the UV protection. Be careful not to scrub too hard, it can rub through to the base fabric
use soft scrub with bleach and bar keepers friends on the floors and the non skid on the bow and platform. They will clean up amazing well. mine looked similar in the cockpit from the old carpet back peeling off. they are completely clean now.
and as mentioned above, as long as the engine and outdrive are solid, for the money that looks like a really nice buy. with any luck it won't be anything significant to work out. good luck to ya!
looks great! I may have to try the acetone for the mildew spot on the back seat of my boat. Nothing has worked there yet. Now let's bring on the warmer weather!
I have found that the magic eraser is a little tough on the vinyl, but if you go easy and a little water it does clean it perry good.will try the acetone.
@MajorAppeal one thought on your engine. Make sure they check the fuel filters. On the 2006 Mercruiser 350 MAG MPI there are two filters per engine. One is a small disc that is a pre filter, then the larger cylinder shaped main filter/water separator. I dont know if the Volvo also has two filters also. The local mechanics where I bought my boat looked at me like I had 5 heads when I had them change my fuel filters and I told them to make sure to do both. "Both? You mean both engines?" I scored points with them when I proved two per engine. They had been maintaining the boat for the 5 years the PO had it and had never done the pre filter, it was black and it should be white. So perhaps there is a filter that was never changed in your situation.
Cleaned up the props this afternoon, is it advised to paint them with barnacle barrier? Or is it better to leave them unpainted if they're going to be used regularly?
Look great! I font think you can
anything on them that would stick, just re clean. I'm guessing your to do list will get so long you will ion forget about how shinny your propa are...
On my 2002 FV270 w/350 Horizon MPI - I have an inline fuel filter (QuickSilver 35-864572T) and a fuel/water separator (Quicksilver 35-802893Q or Sierra 18-7844)
So, since I bought her had her pulled and winterized again to play it safe since we had a good week of freezing weather and snow come through. Relaunched on Thursday. Engine got up to 200 degrees when it was at 175 for the sea trial. Quickly diagnosed a leaking cap on the coolant reservoir. Ran down to the local marine supply and picked one up for $30. Burped the system and took her back out, ran 175 degrees the whole time.
Took her out for a maiden voyage today. Crossed the bay and went over to Rock Hall. Had steaks on the new grill and Cuban cigars to celebrate.
Temp was good the whole time. Oil pressure went up to 80 while cruising and was around 40 the next time i checked which was at low speed, not sure if that's normal. She ran well. Mechanic did an outdrive compression test and it passed. Lower oil was changed at that time. He's coming back to address the EST code and alternator issue. Also will do compression test and leak down test. Pretty happy with everything so far. The listing issue was fixed between moving the battery and filling the water tank. Now it lists to port a little with three people sitting on that side and only me on starboard.
I fixed the horn, see the double tooter. Saw that on someone else's post and installed. Fuel gauge has been fixed, I cleaned the fresh water system out today, installed that new GPS (it's a big one). Took out the carpets and duck taped the bottom and steam cleaned them. The bottom rubber was dry rotting and cracking so that mostly took care of that.
The Wolo Dominator. Doesn't exactly match up with the old holes but has an awesome toot. I called my wife admiral and she insists on being my first mate (she's not the first but we don't need to tell her that :-p)
The mechanics who were working on it for the old owner were talking with me about the lower rpms. They believe it just needs to be run more. Apparently they did a carb cleaning for the old owner when he complained of low speeds and slow to plane. It had been sitting for a while, so they had to clean the bottom and outdrive and ran a carb cleaner. They did a compression test which tested high and then put a camera in the cylinders and found them to be gummed up and dirty. Long story short they told him to take her out and run her a bunch and she just sat. Still has the same gas in there too. I'm gonna try to make it up to this boat. She's treating me pretty good so far. I'm gonna take her out as much as possible.
Congrats, sounds like your off to a grew summer! Getting ready to change all filters and oils and get ready for another year. Looked at my engine oil yesterday and surprised how clean it looks!
Very nice! yesterday was sure a beautiful day to get the boat out and going! If you still have some stains in those carpets, a pressure washer does a wonderful job on them. I use the pressure washer on mine yearly and it gets out any stains or marks. Just don't leave it in one spot too long, or the threads can knarl up.
Maybe we'll see you out on the bay this summer! (we're out of South River) & be sure to look up the Chesapeake Rinkervous in July!
Major, I had never heard calling your woman Admiral until joining this forum, well the first time I called her admiral, let's just say it did'nt go well.
My admiral gets a kick out of the "admiral" thing on here. "Oh, are you telling your rinking buddies about the admiral not helping you today?"... funny stuff. You are a lucky guy, my admiral steam cleaned our cockpit carpets when we bought last spring too but wouldn't let them in the house let alone the bedroom. She did them on the dock! Have fun.
