Wait, I've seen this movie. I know how it ends. There will be widespread damage at marinas within 100 miles of landfall. And even though I'm 300 miles away, my boat insurance will get more expensive.
Last time I saw this movie, the title was "Hurricane Sandy."
While I sit here safely, out west in Arizona, I am reading about you all preparing for this storm. I hope it isn't as bad as it is predicted to be. It seems everyone has prepped accordingly, and I hope it is enough to keep you ALL safe! The only experience I have with Hurricane's isn't much. I was in New Orleans 8 days before Katrina hit. I saw how bad that damage was, and was amazed....stay SAFE
So yesterday afternoon about 4:30 just north of Boston 3 towns blow up due to a low pressure gas line getting high pressure. Of course my son and my granddaughter (of course his girlfriend a her 6 year older) live right in the middle of this. 70 houses caught on fire and multiple injuries. Thankfully my son and his house were ok. Stay safe everyone during this hurricane...........

For the DC area, it's starting to look like a real non-event. The rain prediction for most of the Potomac watershed has been downgraded from 4-8" to 1-2", so I doubt we'll get much flooding.

Does that consider Flo going up and over West Virginia area?
yes, pretty much a non-event for the bay. We'll be down at the boat tonight. Tide may be a foot or two higher, but that's ok. Hopefully it isn't even over the dock.
34 inches of rain... Storm stalled and sat 3 days over area.. Power out since Thursday eve when it hit... Unofficially a series of tornados took out likely 25% of mature hardwoods within a half mile radius of my property.. It'll be a lomg time before area is "Right" again... I got off lucky, and would guess with only around 30 to 40k damages. My house, the one caddy corner across from me, and guy directly behind me faired best, all about the same total damages I'd GUESS... Every other place in the 'hood? Not good... Houses will be completely condemned...
The island (emerald isle) is worse. Swansboro is underwater... There is one passible road into area (which I used today, as the fresh water runoff finishes likely tomorrow there will be a brief window to pass before inland comes back down on us) bit it will likely close today or early tomorrow ... Its bad.. While I was driving it (and noticing ppl behind me a good distance off, no doubt seeing how I'd fair before attempting) I thought many times "I cant believe theyre letting ppl drive in thos road"... It was literally the ONLY way in, and I wager its closed or closing as I type this .
Ot was only a cat 2. Ive been in worse... But... The sheer volume of wind and water damage from the total elapsed exposure is something to behold... The old timers are saying its the worst they've ever seen. Even those familiar with hazel.
Before I was in emergency management and response to hazmat/wmd, and even before I was a Marine, I was a boy scout. I'm one provisioned dude+family.
And to tell a tale:
I left prior to storm to evac fam. This is first day I could get back. Sent them west for a week so it's just me and dogs.
The night storm began a uhaul came creeping down road... Power out dark as can be .... Middle of it all... He stopped at a downed tree just prior to my house ... As soon as he stopped he was painted with laser sights from four different positions... He left. In haste. Much haste...
Good luck 212row! I've been thinking about you down there since the storm started coming in. Glad to hear you and the fam did the smart thing. (my son is soon to be an eagle scout and trying to get into Naval Academy next. He is always one prepared 15 yr old).
@212rowboat , glad to hear you are okay. Some friends of mine own 2 condos on EI. They only had 1 window blown out that they know of right now. My wife and I were supposed to head to their condo in EI in 2 weeks. It looks like we might not be going. If we do end up going, let me know if you need anything.
