@Dream_Inn is correct, permanent so that only one engine is powering up the VVMM. Should you have port powering it and you have to limp home on the starboard engine only then you could disconnect port and plug back in to starboard to keep monitoring it.
@Spyderweb will do. be a few weeks myself as still inside and have a few other tasks to do once pulled from the bunker. I also just noticed your boat details- 2008. You may have under the helm a j-box now, I believe later models of boats (manufacturer dependent) may have put in an SC or NMEA architecture and that will change what you need to do. When you get to check it out have a good look around.
Again at a disadvantage with boat so far away, but I don't even recall is there's a way to look behind helm without removing all the gauge panels. Its that likely? Anyone know when Rinker started installing under helm j-box?. Or was it like an option where some will have it and some not for same year and model boat?
Anyone have trouble getting it to initialize? I've installed it on my 2005 Rinker 360 with the 496 Max engines. It will pick up the blue tooth signal and let me select my boat, it then starts to initialize and then gives me an error message. Not sure why, and was wondering if anyone else ran into this problem. It does say in the instructions that the city code may need to be changed on one engine when using it on a twin engine setup?
I'm at a loss as to what to try, my local mercruiser mechanic is of no help.
I'm a single engine, but never have run into that problem. I would contact that VVM rep that was on this board and see what he has to say. Search for it.
I'll find out in a week or so once I fire up, electronics going in this week. From Wally at Merc:
The port engine will need to have its CityID
changed to PORT (CityID 12). All engines ship from the factory as STBD
(City ID 11) as we do not know what application they will be used in.
This CityID process needs to be done with a service tool (Rinda, CDS, etc),
typically at a Mercury dealer. Should take less than 5 minutes if they
know what to do.

Did you put the terminator on the unused port of the VVM unit?

What cables did you use? Mine have terminators and don't need at jbox. Have a look at my comments in this thread April 17 on the setup Wally at Mercury gave me.
Icoutha, this is great! My boat is 100 miles north and still wrapped, so I won't find these connections for awhile, but this tells me what parts I need to order. Yours is a much more efficient setup than my word document shows. Eliminates the P Link Cable, Dual Engine Instrument Adapter, and 1 J Box. Love that.
The step I hadn't heard before was the "Pulling the power disconnect from starboard engine". Is this something done just during installation and then hooked back up, or is permanently left dis-connected?
I too will be installing mine in the engine room. Really appreciate it if you post some pics showing your setup after installation.
Thanks again.
Paul
@Spyderweb here are a couple of photos, nothing out of the ordinary. Mounted j-box and VVMM on the forward firewall and ran the harness back along with the neutral cables from batteries using the same cable clamps then ran up to the top of the engine.
What you see in the second is the starboard engine with the harness plugged in and the power disconnect pulled so the port powers up the unit. Note the yellow end of the harness at the engine SC connector - terminating the bus. The 4th port on the j-box is just a cap.
Hey folks ... this thread has grown to 74 comments with 1100 views, so it's obviously an important topic. Anybody feel like condensing it into a more concise format and posting it as a separate thread?
Instructions for DTS vs. non-DTS, single engine vs. twins ... part numbers, diagrams etc.
Found this video on the Bayliner Owners Club site (I owned Bayliners 31 years before coming to Rinker, so I still visit the site). Guy does a real good job reviewing the screens on the VVM App and how to customize them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIfqELm3tH8
I just caught up on it. Kicking myself for not buying VVM when it was $150. Hoping that comes back around at some point.....
Same here. Getting back on the forum after taking the winter off. Hoping the deal comes back. If any of you that have ordered end up wanting to get rid of it and selling, let me know.
